Alright admist all this blood mine is going to sound cheesy. I always hated the story of Samuel. His poor mom wanted a child so bad that she offered that child to god for his life. I never did get that one. Why would a god of love allow her to do this? Wouldn't he just give her a child to love and raise on her own, no strings attached?

    Mommy,

the Samuel story reminded me that I always somehow disagreed with the Abraham and Isaac deal too. Especially as the picture of the person offering his child to the fire in Moloch's lap (In the Paradise Lost book) terrified me as a child.

But with Abraham, this was the 'good' god now asking for someone to sacrifice his child. And good old Abe doesn't bat an eyelid and is quite happy to perform human sacrifice. Why would a god that requests child sacrifice be worthy of any worship? What is it with Gods and children? How could anyone even consider such a thing. Its abhorrent to me (thats a good WT word isn't it!!).

God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son!"
Abe said "Man, you must be puttin' me on!"

No wonder people end up as Jdubs,

Check the Lot story Pope, did it ever occur to you that the men seemed like unfortunate street bums. "No; we will spend the night in the street". Lot took them into his care (as could have anyone in the city) and so couldn't allow them to be taken to harm. Jdubs are waiting on angels that are mighty in Their eyes, world destroying and all. The angels are already here. They're the underpriveleged, the poor, the oppressed, etc. They're sorting out the sheep from the goats everyday.

And tyydyy, the Jonah story, Jonah was pissed that God didn't destroy the Ninevites because that's what he understood was going to happen. Try and tell devout dubs that God changed His mind (Jonah 3:10); I've seen some pretty pissed looks from them too. It's a teaching story, like a parable. The Jonah story tells of the dark night of the soul, about Jesus descending to hell. I don't think that the WT society understand along those lines.

"The Red Tent" is a modern fiction, and I can't recall 'Jehovah' approving vengeance over Dinah.

And for the Philistines, the foreskins were about conversion.

The fig tree would be better for other use.

What else can I say ?

    Hello Bang,

Nice to meet you. Bit caustic with your statements, now aren't you? Since you're new here, may I ask your background?

The Red Tent" is a modern fiction, and I can't recall 'Jehovah' approving vengeance over Dinah.
The Bible, which some contend is ancient fiction, doesn't say whether 'Jehovah' approved or disapproved.. In fact, it's silent about what Jehovah thought about the whole matter. That, in itself, is strange - seeing that his believers were doing all the ruthless killing and sabotage.

As for Dinah, the Bible is eerily silent about her also. Most likely because she was a woman - and her only claim to fame was being "bad association." Could also be that she never existed as a historical person - only as a teaching lesson to stay away from all others.

And jdubs are taught that "all things where written" as a lesson for us.

Again, the blame for the whole situation is put at Dinah's feet. IF she had remained with her theocratic friends, THEN she wouldn't have been *violated*, and all those men wouldn't have been slaughtered, and her family wouldn't have worried about being slain in return. That was the reason her father gave for leaving that area in a hurry with all his family & sheep - retribution.

Of course, we have no way of knowing much about her - seeing that she's only mentioned by name as being raped - and the cause of so much slaughter.

Btw, the book "The Red Tent" is modern fiction written by a Jewish woman - and lends light on the daily living of women during that period of history. Seeing that women were considered by many men (and the Bible for the most part) as not even being worthy of remembering their name (versus the amount of men named in the Bible) - it's refreshing and enlightening to view what it would have been like to be a woman of averageness back then.

Dirty, dying young, hiding any intelligence from man, being raped, being sold off, being bought, being beaten.............and some being incredibly resourceful and strong.

You might look into reading it - widen your horizons.

    Bang,
If the Jonah story was about Jesus goin to hell............Why didn't I read anything about Jesus? Let's see.....Jonah...Jesus...both have 2 syllables and start with a J but I don't remember Jesus going the other way, disobeying God in the other story.

Anyway why would God feel the need to tell the same story twice? Only the first time it was cryptic and gives the impression he's telling a real story. Why would God care about Ninevah anyway? He couldn't even get his own nation in line.

even if the angels were "street bums" and Lot was being such a nice guy to offer them lodging, NO excuse exists for offering your children as rape victims and human sacrifice. None whatsoever. That the Bible even touts such action as morally acceptable is beyond comprehension to me.

Even today, the main feature of JW worship is a form of child sacrifice by refusing blood transfusions.

Seems to me that your god may be the biggest paedophile of them all!

    The Pope
