I generally miss nothing. I very rarely miss points.

Wrong. You evidently missed my point when u quoted that 'worn victor' statement I made. It was in reference to the US's entrance into WWII, not a possible conflict between the US and the Nazi World, which is a product of your delusions.

    b]More utter nonsense
. I challenge you to produce data that at any time since reliable records began Japan was the wealthiest nation in the world!Well it actually depends on how you define wealth. It is no secret that the Japanese econonmy outperformed the US throughout much of the 1980's. Especially in the area of Real Estate and some areas of manufacturing. However, the economy was based on a rather faulty tactic of driving up real estate prices and it soon went bust. However, the fear of the Japanese economy overtakking our own was a very real perception in the US at that time. Bill Clinton solved that little problem though. However, due to that success of the Japanese eonomy the nation does enjoy an almost non-existant gap between rich and poor and quite possibly the Highest per capita income of any industrialized nation. Are those things indicative of wealth?

Now I will deal with uyour grand illusions of a German World lead by Hitler against the US. One thing you forget is that Hitler's empire would in no way have encompassed the entire world. At most it would have included Europe and maybe some parts of North Africa. Secomdly, how would Hitler be able to bring the whole world to the fight? It would have been an enormous effort on his part just to assemble the war machine to cross two oceans and keep them adequately supplied for the conquest of the US. IMO, he would have worn himself out in the attempt. The same way he and Napoleon did in Russia. That landmass was too much for their armies to handle. Can u imagine them trying to cross not one but two oceans?

Don't mention Japan. They knew the futility of trying to actually occupy US soil. That's why they went for a knockout blow to the fleet in the Pacfic. There was no way they could sustain an actual attack on the US's shores. This even at the height of their military successes.

Being far, far ahead of France or England is a FAR CRY from being anywhere ahead of a WORLD (bar the U.S.) and its resources controlled by the Nazis...[/b]
Again, it's not likely that Hitler would have controlled all of the world's resources. What bit he could get his hands on he would have had more trouble trying to keep under his control, than actually marshalling them for an attack on the US. It's more than likely he would have needed America as a trading partner and ally on the world scene, to counteract his eventual conflict with Asia. They were the ones actually in control of the rubber, gas, oil and other natural resources that would have been needed to support such a large European empire.

Anyways nice talking to you focus. Sorry I couldn't get bakk to you earlier.

Being an internationally accessible DB I’m not surprised to see some America bashing, that should be expected I suppose.

It's amazing so many Americans seems to be completely unable to sort out the difference between Apples and Bananas. Perhaps the reason is they're really living in the most hypocritical banana-republic in the world?

Instead of accessing the subject in question, it's the damned "God Bless America" - no matter if the greatest war-monger since Hitler is ruling in the White House. The government of the US is the most hypocritical bunch of no good racists in the world - feeling their end justify the means - no matter how insane the means.

While the unholy Americans feel it's their right to bomb anyone that is doing anything the US don't like - they accept the most cruel regimes in the world. The Saudi government, for mentioning one.

Now they will have the support of a person known for genocide - to get rid of a guy they don't like. The bloody Israelis can slaughter as many Palestinians as they want to - but all hell is rised if some Palestinian rightfully attacks a military target according to the international law.

But the US don't give a damn about international law, do they? They don't pay their debts to the UN either. It's "bashing" to mention stuff like this.

If I only could understand why so many Americans seems to be totally without the ability to see the world around them!

No wonder velcro-straps are so popular in the US!

    Morning Kent, you madman,

I understand your frustration with Americans basic unawareness of the world around them and their seemingly apathetic attitude toward the rest of the world.

The thing of it is is that there are many kinds of people here and, almost more importantly, various income levels. I realize America is a very wealthy nation (I mean I *am* an American) however there are a lot more people than you think who are very far from wealthy. The rest of the world might be surprised to find how many people work 2 or 3 really crappy paying jobs just to make the rent and groceries. They barely have any time for their kids, much less themselves. I know when this was my story I was far more concerned if I had milk/food for the kids and would make the rent/mortgage that month. Believe you me, I was so overwhelmed with trying to "get by" the last thing on my mind was what corrupt government in the world we were chumming around with.

Then of course we have those who have plenty and their big worries are catching that sale at the Clinique counter, their next social event or how to cheat on their taxes/hide income. There are many with their heads in the sand, who gobble up the garbage/propaganda called news (or worst of all "talk-radio"!!!) and just go on their happy, self-absorbed way--thinking they are "in the know". If *only* they knew.

It is thanks to some who *are* in the know and work very hard to make facts known that at least *some* Americans *do* know and *do* care about the world around them and try to do what they can to make it a better place. One way to do this is to really learn what is going on in the political world, discuss the issues (instead of recipes or the lastest fashion etc.), and make informed choices in the voting booth. There is also the power of the pen. When there is enough pressure from constituents the elected officials *do* tend to pay attention because they know if they do not, well they can kiss the trough they feed at good-bye.

I know in my heart it is those who are far too busy making ends meet who would be the most passionate about making the necessary changes in US government. I know my own bout with poverty certainly helped me in this way.

Just putting in my two cents worth re: we aren't all the same and we aren't *all* self-absorbed, greedy bastards.

Bigboi: you are immersed in delusion, and I have neither the time nor the inclination to bring you to reality. Your super-macho "Amerika wins" (versus the rest of the world) fantasies are sad.

It was in reference to the US's entrance into WWII, not a possible conflict between the US and the Nazi World
LOL! WW2 was principally about the spread of Nazism (and its Pacific counterpart). A distinction without a difference.

. I challenge you to produce data that at any time since reliable records began Japan was the wealthiest nation in the world!Well it actually depends on how you define wealth. It is no secret Note, no data produced, no source referenced.

that the Japanese econonmy outperformed the US throughout much of the 1980's. Especially in the area of Real Estate
    Hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

"Real estate" is not an area of the economy. I knew you had to rely on some absurd extrapolation from what 1 square foot costs in Tokyo (putting aside the fact that if a lot became available, the price would plummet).

quite possibly the Highest per capita income of any industrialized nation.
Simply untrue. Where is your source for this? Reference?

    Further, Income != Wealth

    You have sunk beyond trace.

Now I will deal with uyour grand illusions of a German World lead by Hitler against the US. One thing you forget is that Hitler's empire would in no way have encompassed the entire world. At most it would have included Europe and maybe some parts of North Africa.
Asiatic Russia is half of Asia. Or did you think he would have just stopped at Moscow?

Secomdly, how would Hitler be able to bring the whole world to the fight?
By threatening and then killing those who refused, and their families, and ... you seem unable to understand the mechanisms of terror. The resistance movements in Europe were - leaving aside Hollywood's make-believe - largely ineffective.

How does Saddam stay in power in Iraq, now he has lost the support of his Big Brother the U.S.?

And more .. By 1944 Hitler had fighting for him over half a million VOLUNTEERS and RECRUITS from the previously hostile countries he had conquered... and he could have had far more in the East, had he so wished.

Don't mention Japan. They knew the futility of trying to actually occupy US soil.
    Further American super-Jock delusions...

    "Our sacred soil".... hahahaha!

Again, it's not likely that Hitler would have controlled all of the world's resources.
No, no, he would have voluntarily stopped. He was well known for reasonableness and benevolence.

Anyways nice talking to you focus.

If I only could understand why so many Americans seems to be totally without the ability to see the world around them!

Kent, you'd be amazed at the level of propaganda that exists in the U.S. If a person's sole source of information is television news or their local newspaper, they would have no idea about how the rest of the world feels or what is going on or how their own government behaves. In fact, they are often directly lied to by these sources, as good propaganda often does, and thus remain worse than uninformed, but misinformed.

And when you have been conditioned since birth to be a good corporate citizen, to buy, buy, buy to prop up the economy, and to wave the flag when the President says we are at war, it takes initiatize to look beyond the propaganda to see what is really happening.

Yes, I realize propaganda exists in other countries as well, but I was talking about America, the DoublePlus Good government of the world.

    Hi Seeker,

Your points on propaganda are well made. I tried to make similar points thought not the focus of my points to Kent. You did a better job. Thought this especially clever *and* witty (Julie holding up "10" score-card from Uncorrupted Judges Booth):

:I was talking about America, the DoublePlus Good government of the world.

LOL No wonder I love you so....

    Pat,

So, what are some of your favorite news and editorial sources? I plead guilty to using only US sources all the time.

Thanks to the net it is currently possible for me to read as many different news sources as I want. I have to stick to Scandinavian and English-language sites, but am able to make sense of a German newspaper article given a bit of time.

The overall best news source in the world is the BBC, and their web site lives up to the standard: http://news.bbc.co.uk/ It has regional news from all around the world.

I also read the Guardian for British news http://www.guardian.co.uk/

For American sites, I read CNN of course http://europe.cnn.com/ and also drop by http://www.salon.com/ and http://slate.msn.com/ I have a larger reading list including nando, nyt, lat when I have the time & energy.

I read http://www.news.com/ for IT news, http://www.wired.com/ for technological perspectives, Financial Times at http://news.ft.com/news/worldnews/uk for the economists' viewpoints and Jane's at http://www.janes.com/ for political/military perspectives.

When something big happens in any specific part of the world, I try to get to a local English-language news source (e.g. Jerusalem Post, whatever).

I always try to find commentators with opposing views from myself.

Thanks for your links. I usually skim only the AP, LA time, NY Times, CNN, the local rag, and Slate sometimes. I appreciate your putting all the links for me. I'll save it.
