To me, one of the most pathetic and lamest of all Watchtower teachings is the fantasy that Satan and the demons rule the world.
To me, one of the most pathetic and lamest of ideas is the fantasy that Satan and his demons do not rule the world!
The Witnesses are terrified of these demons getting into their minds through everything from wearing old clothes bought at the thrift store to smoking cigarettes
Yes, it's the same sort of justifiable dread of bringing home a cockroach or a rat in some old boxes or something. Demons, roaches, and rodents are just not something that sane people want to bring into their homes. They are all unclean creatures. By the way, that's what Christ called the demons ---unclean spirits. The case with demons and used objects, is that they latch onto certain objects so that when that thing is passed to another the unclean creature sort of tags along because they view it as belonging to them. They can attach themselves to certain people too. It's just a game they like to play because, apparently, there are certain boundaries that they can't cross over with out hitchhiking on these physical or human objects.
They would have you believe that each country on Earth is controlled by really big mean and tough demons (hey demons can’t be nice you know) and they are actively controlling the minds of the political leaders in a global chess game because they have nothing better to do.
That's not something the Watchtower cooked up. The books of Daniel and Revelation reveal that the real rulers and governing principalities exist in the spirit realm. Daniel referred to a struggle that took place between Gabriel, who is an angel of Jehovah, and the prince of Persia, who obviously could not be human since he has resisting a powerful angel.
I was wondering then if anyone can show me a single itsy bitsy tiny amount of evidence to show any credible physical evidence or logical/metaphysical reasoning to back the JW ideological boogey men.
The word of Jehovah is enough for those who accept and trust him. Christ exposed the demons in no uncertain terms. Ironically enough, YOU are one of the most obvious evidences of the existence of the demons. That's because the demons have the power to blind the minds of individuals to their own existence. Another evidence is the occult. The occult and magic are as old as human history. People aren't that stupid. The only thing that adequately explains the occult is that there are demons who are misleading people by playing upon their fear and ignorance by using mysterious phenomenon.
I would be especially interested in seeing how anyone who believes in demons might reason that minds are being controlled by demons.
There are varying degrees of mind control exerted by the demons. It seems that outright demon possession is relatively rare. But, it is obvious in the case of serial killers and that sort of thing that they are absolutely possessed. If you recall Jeffery Dahmier, that guy from Milwaukee a few years back who killed young men and cut them up with a carving knife and a chain saw and kept them stored in vats of acid in his living room and dined on the leftovers, which he kept in the fridge. He admitted openly that he was possessed. Also, the Son of Sam said that he was ordered to kill by a "6,000 year-old voice” that emanated out of a dog, which is bizarrely reminiscent of the account about Satan seeming to speak through a serpent some 6,000 years ago in Eden. Of course, everyone dismisses them as being just plain crazy. But, the thing is, everyone is under the influence of the demons to some degree. Just like if you live in America, you are under the influence of the media and the educational system. There's no way around it. The only man who was untouchable and completely untainted was Jesus Christ. He stated one time that "the ruler of the world is coming and he has no hold on me." No one else can make that same claim. Peter for example allowed himself to become an unwitting tool of Satan when he innocently enough kindly counseled Jesus that he wouldn’t have to go through with his sacrifice. Jesus of course said to Peter: "Get behind me Satan." So Jesus recognized the source of that seemingly well meant counsel. The demons simply insert thoughts into imperfect minds to the extent that such minds are receptive. Some are more so then others, and a lot of it has to do with a person's heart condition toward God. Of course if we were able to perfectly follow God’s word the demons would not be able to influence us at all. But, that’s not possible at the present time.
Do you think demons only symbolically control the world or do you think they actually possess people? Do you think George Bush is demonized for example?
The demons don't control the world through individuals. The way the Bible describes it, their malevolent spirit simply permeates society as a whole----like the air that surrounds us. Because they have exerted their influence over successive generations they are able to control society through the philosophical underpinnings of various institutions and organizations that have been established for centuries in some cases. Because the demons are not anywhere near almighty they have to use the political and religious apparatus, along with the educational and entertainment sector, to mold human thinking and steer people's minds away from the truth. So it is not like the demons possess our minds, it's just that we are deeply immersed in a system that they control.
As for a man like George Bush, I doubt very seriously if he is possessed. Probably guys like Hitler and Stalin were, but psychos like that are relatively rare, thank God. But, again, the demons have the means at their disposal to maneuver things so as to create extreme pressure against humans to bend them to their will if the man is so inclined to begin with. In the case of George Bush, he had the record as governor of Texas of overseeing the most executions that have ever taken place in any state. So, I would say that he might fit the demons' profile of a certain type of individual that would be more inclined to pull the trigger when there's some big time killing that needs to be done.
I’m not so much fishing for Biblical answers as I am trying to understand why some people believe this story. I remember when I asked questions way back then in my pioneering days, nobody had any answers…is there new light?
On a personal note: Some years before I became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses I had a fascination with the occult. I read numerous books on spiritism and black magic and eventually had frequent visitations and conversations with the demons. When I began studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses I still kept dabbling with LSD and my little visitors became very disturbed. They threatened me with death on numerous occasions if I didn’t stop my association with Jehovah’s Witnesses. So, that only reinforced my conviction that Jehovah’s Witnesses had the truth, relatively speaking. Maybe too, that’s why I am not intimidated by apostates?
Anyway, here’s what I would suggest: Since you don’t accept God’s or Christ’s word for it, why don’t you look up someone who is an occultist and interview them on the subject and see what they tell you? I am not suggesting at all to read or practice occultism, because I know it can be extremely dangerous, but, if you really want to investigate this thing, go act as an investigative reporter and go talk to some people who KNOW that the demons are real. They may be able to enlighten you where all others have failed. / You Know
