Does your wife know you post here? If so, I'd suggest caution about talking about your divorce case. Nothing like completely tipping your had for her legal team.

As the religion was the cause for the breakdown of the marriage I can appreciate how having a JW lawyer involved in the process seems a little sordid almost as if the society gets their cut of your assets as well as your wife. However this is her choice and there is little you can do about it unfortunately. All I will say is be prepared for the dirty tricks they play and ensure that your legal representative is fully informed. The good news is their strategies are clearly documented and researched so there should be no surprises.

I can only imagine what it is like to have all stability go out the door. Somehow people seem to survive.

I was thinking about how many JW professionals there could be in the world. My sociology prof said that went Levittown first was established, all these doctors and lawyers were very active in civic cases. It was unusual. Later data showed that they were only present to develop business. If you do a large volume of JW cases, it might be worth the effort. JWs will hired another JW through word of mouth or legend rather than check credentials or local word of mouth. The isolation of JWs makes them almost certain to hire another JW> Catholics and Protestants have so many alternatives.

    Perhaps I am only cynical.

I'm sorry to hear this. I do believe they get involved to help there "reputation" they don't want the crazzy stuff about the religion being the focus. 25 years ago when my parents were fighting over my brother and me I know they got involved thru the local elders. Somehow my not wroking, alcoholic, dirty house dad won??? But, I don't know my mom is crazzy and moved every year and was on husband #4 so it was a toss up....

I hope you have a good lawyer yourself. Tell your lawyer EVERTHING about the cult. The blood issue, how they make you look like satan.....

    Best wishes to you!!

It is without doubt that going through a divorce is challenging and stressful thing to experience in ones life, been there myself once.

The best advise to give someone is be totally prepared and have all your cards in order before any hearings.

Be strong, protect yourself from anything that the opposing side might throw at you.

I can't imagine the WTBS providing an attorney or even funding such. If they do it for one they would have to do it for all. "But" that's not saying the attorney may not be doing it pro bono as a favor for her or someone else or even offering it at a reduce fee and someone is picking up the tab. Let me ask you something.. Is the attorney licensed in the state where the divorce is taking place?

Nonetheless, basic divorces can't go anywhere other than what is stated in law no matter who the attorney is. Not saying that there may be special forces at work behind the scenes where the almighty $$ speaks in someones favor. My suggestion, try to call in some favors. I'm sure you know someone.

People lets make one thing clear, the WTS. does not offer one of their payed for lawyers to intervene in divorce

cases with one of their JW members. Most likely she mentioned to someone in her congregation, maybe an elder,

that she was going to proceed to go through a divorce with Oompa and someone spoke up and said they knew a JWS

who happened to be one, end of story.

The lawyer is probably a local brother who sees an opportunity to hook up with a sister. You know how slim pickens were in the KH.
