But can somebody tell me how in the hell new York gets 2 points for a safety without tackling Brady in the end zone ??

Brady didn't have to be tackled because the penalty happened when he was in the end zone. If he wasn't in the end zone it would have been half the distance to the goal. When the quarterback is in the end zone with the ball any penalty against the offense results in a safety- no tackle is necessary.

The same thing happened against San Fransisco . New York fumbled while their running back was still churning his legs and wasn't down yet. The 49ers recovered but the referred called the play dead while the New York running backs knees hadn't touched the ground yet.

That's because the official blew his whistle before the fumble, indicating the play was over. Since the play was officially over there could be no fumble.

POPPERS- I had no idea that the rules state a team is rewarded with a safety if a penalty is called on the offensive team while in the end zone. Thanks for the clarification.

As regards the referee blowing the whistle dead on the S.F. 49er fumble play- I felt it was a premature whistle by the referee which should NOT have been blown that early. The play was still in progress. It was the ONLY play that entire game in which the refs blew an early whistle. It was a tough loss for S.F

It's a judgment call by the official whether or not forward progress has ended and he blows his whistle. Sometimes a "quick whistle" is unwarranted, such as in this case, but because it's a judgment call it can't be overruled. What can be overruled is whether a receiver gets both feet in bounds while maintaining control of the ball, whether a player crossed the goal line, where to spot a ball, that sort of thing. But judgment calls cannot be overruled.

POPPERS- I get it, yeah. A judgment call can't be overturned . It's just that I really question the judgment of referees quite often not only in football but baseball and basketball as well. I've seen lots of screwed up calls for sure watching sports. Some may not affect the outcome of games, yet some missed calls do. I get tired of some games being decided by referees or umpires - not the players

The more rules a sport has the more complicated the officiating gets because there's more chance for error on the officials' part, and football is constantly tinkering with and creating new rules. We've got to take the bad with the good with the NFL's desire to make the game as "fair" as possible. Obviously, it's a flawed system, but it is what it is and we have to live with it. When officials blow a call sometimes it works in your favor and sometimes not.

POPPERS- Indeed , I know it's a flawed system with all the rules - and I accept it and live with it - but I'll still bitch about it . I was the same way as a JW. A rebel and independent thinker with a cause. Always bitching about the WT rules as well. It's in my nature and blood to rebel . LOL ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Charlie, on top of all else said, it was a clean game with no fights or stupid penalties (unlike the old Giants days with Shockey)

The other night I was watching the Super Bowl replay with "miked up" live verbal commentary from players during the game.

    I noticed to key admissions:

1st Brady aknowledged from the side line that he "tried to throw the ball away"

2nd, there was a key holding penalty against the Giants offense that changed the outcome of a drive, a couple of plays layer Wolfork (defensive lineman for the pats) was asked by the ref if the he was held/spun, Wolford playingly admitted that the ref blew the call.
