The thing that is disturbing about that video is that Santorum was there, it was introducing him, he clapped, and he is really getting a lot of votes. It is unlikely that he will beat Romney, but it's actually close. So this is what much of America is about. This isn't just some wingnut church---it turns my stomach.
Before I was a witness, I went to a bible study. It was the 80's and this church's goal, along with many others, was to control government policy. They felt they had the authority of the holy spirit to do so. They were very organized, had money, and focused. I am seeing the fruits of their labor now, and they have gained incredible ground over that last couple of decades. They have hijacked the Republican party, and at the moment are taking over state houses and making unconstitutional laws. This is not a force to take lightly. This is no longer the lunatic fringe.
And always the persecution! Those committed to reason and evidence are demonized. There is a reason Atheists need some kind of coming out----many of us are much more comfortable in a closet. It's safer. Look at the emotion! Is it such a jump to see these people grab up pitchforks and torches?
And you CANNOT shut them up once they have started. Their eyes get bright and they can let nothing drop. It's like a drug. I realize that my personal experiences do not define the whole, but I'm seeing it everywhere. They are absolutely convinced that we were founded as a christian nation, and they are determined to 'take it back'. Aside from being outright disturbing, it's embarrassing. Welcome to America.
But WE are the bad people for sometimes feeling hostile toward this lunacy.
