"I mean, is there really any scientific evidence to support their existence?..."
Oh, please.... Tell me that you didn't say that!!!
I dunno 'bout "demunzzz" - well, actually, I don't think they exist at all - but this lil' ol' She-Devil sure do exist!!!
But now to be just a bit more serious...
You've been hiking, right? Camping? BAckpacking???
Being off by oneself in a Canadian mountain valley with rockfall occurring every night, off in the distance... Hearing big - I mean, VERY BIG porcupines chewing on branches and twigs - sounds like ghouls munching on dead mens' bones, to my imaginative ear... Seeing that cold, blue ice and frigid water - and landing in it once or twice... And feeling that icy grip bite down on one's skin, and realize what could happen if I DIDN'T get out of the water in time... Coyotes doing a yappity song right next to the tent [in New Mexico...] Owls hooting off in the woods [all over the place...]
That kind of stuff can make one believe in "spooky" stuff, especially if one is in a primitive mindset, seeking to place some sentient "form" in charge of these real and imagined dangers, a sentient "form" that could possibly be propitiated for one's safety....
That place in the primitive mind is where both gods and devils - demunzzzz - come from...
