    @Chariklo

They were spirits. The only question is were they demons? In my own opinion they were demons (but that could be influenced by my JW background).

The searching part possible. But there's just too many other aspects that were beyond her control (e.g. 3 sons). And no, she wanted to postpone the wedding for another year.

    Demon facts:

They'll not appear, scare, make noises, and nothing at all in the presence of a skeptic/atheist.

Of course they exist, they cause illness and disease, after all the Bible and Jesus tell us this many times. The fact that illness is often causes by minute germs is never alluded too, the person is only cursed because they did something wrong and the daemon entered them.

I've read in the guardian online news about a class teaching critical thinking to kids, and a lesson about an invisible unicorn and the kids have to prove or disprove its existence.

Of course no one ever could and that's the lesson.

I guess it's not much different with demons, depends on many factors, some personal, cultural or environment or whatever.

Not sure what I believe I just always was a little sceptical when my mother would forbid me from watching anything even slightly supernatural in case a demon jumped out the tv! And now as an adult I've watched many such movies and of course looked at apostate sites lol and nothin so far!

Many people of Jesus' time believed that the universe was divided into two competing realms, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan, or the Devil. Satan was believed to seduce people into sin, which brought in its wake a loss of God's blessings of health and life. Paul said when sin came into the world, "death reigned" (Romans 5:14). But individual sinners were not always believed to be responsible for their own suffering. When evil befell them, ancient Christians and Jews suspected that someone- either Satan or a person who had sinned-was the cause. Hence Luke 13:16 speaks of a crippled woman as one” whom Satan bound for eighteen years." John 9:2 voices the common assumption that sin leads to sickness:” who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

    - From 'Mysteries of the Bible'. Belief in Satan & demons comes from a time when people were really ignorant about the causes of sickness andpremature death. That's all.

My ex JW gf long time ago rented condo in Florida, she was choked by the demons, she said she yelled Jehovah, the demons went away, then she decided to leave the condo for good. I believe her.

As one comedian said 'with all of the millions of slaves that existed throughout history don't you think if they were ghosts they'd kick our asses.

    NC,

I read what you wrote and need to ask, why did the smoke alarm go off? I too have had sleep paralysis , usually when I am stressed. It can seem very real and frightening. I don't understand why your smoke alarm went off, was there really a fire in your home?

I remember a demon experience from childhood. It was shortly after bedtime when a lego flew out of my dark closet. Then another. I panicked, wrought with fear, for I knew these were the demons we'd been warned about. So pulled out the secret weapon - "jehovah!". Another lego. So then the big guns - a trifecta of "jehovahs!". Still yet another lego. These are some damn brazen demons. But a few seconds later a snicker...then outright giggling. Demons giggle?

No, they don't, because they don't exist. But my older brother does. That sumbitch.

If we're capable of conjuring up terrifying monsters in childhood, why shouldn't some of us, at least on occasion, be able to fantasize something similar, something truly horrifying, a shared delusion, as adults? — Carl Sagan

Yes, they do exist - in consciousness. Jung explored this.

If they manifest, something is usually the culprit (oppressive religion, perhaps?)
