It counts as a serious mistake on their part. If they had apologized, it would be less serious.
TO ALL LURKERS: the WTS approves of parents humilating their children!

They never apologize.
As for the sex topics, I agree that it's not a matter of "if you don't like it, don't read it". It's a matter of "stop friggin' posting them until you turn 18". This is a discussion forum that is open to many different topics, but someone who is underage should NOT be posting such things within a group of adults. Instead of whining about your right to post what you want on a public forum, how about being a little more mature and understanding/respecting that we, as legal adults, don't want to be implicated in discussing such matters with a minor?

I think the significance of this article is that whilst it may predate many of our involvements in the organisation it does not predate many of our parents. It was articles such as these that formed the attitude in the congregation that physical discipline was essential for child rearing. It gave our parents the tools and instruction to see their children as responsible for their own salvation needing conditioning to tow the line.
The watchtower society has many times reinforced the idea of physical discipline as acceptable, however it has been less forthcoming regarding mental discipline tending to be less forthright on this topic. The fact that so many threads have been started on the topic of discipline at meetings shows that these attitudes are alive and well.

Shock!! Horror!! Oh my God in Heaven. You mean JW parents are told they can humiliate their children?!
Get a grip, please.
Given that their God, Yahweh, was a genocidal and violent maniac who wiped out entire peoples, including young children and babies, the witnesses are doing way better than Him in their behaviour. What's a little humiliation compared with wiping out children. Besides, people who interpret the Bible literally do tend to have a harsher, less compassionate view of children's behaviour. Yet, credit where its due: The majority of witnesses areno where near as viciously murderous as the God they worship.

I think Nugget made a good point. This is how OUR parents (not mine, wasn't raised, but you get the point) were trained to parent, and therefore how they trained THEIR children to parent. It's damage that an apology or an updated article can't undo.
Regarding CE's other threads. She didn't post that here. This was about parental discipline. I'm just saying, that while I realize many adults have been made uncomfortable that a minor would start threads on sex, this is not one of them. Think about that article. If we are dealing with a teenager, and we follow her around on unrelated threads, and bring up what happened on another thread, how is that any different than the article?
I'm not saying that you shouldn't express your discomfort on the other threads, but should they invalidate everything else?

well if we want to look it this thread under it's own merit, my comments stand.

It does! :)
I was thinking that not only does their discipline advice to parents mimick beautifully their god, this is how they run their org. Marking talks. Three men in a room passing judgement, asking intimate details. DF announcements. Shunning. The humiliation never ends.

And another thing. Even the TMS follows this trend. How they publicly 'council' 'students'. When I give oral presentations in college, my prof shares her thoughts with ME, not the class. I mean, it's fine when you did a warm and squishy job, and it's all praise. But think of how hard it is for some (me definitely) to get up in front of people to speak. And how do they handle it? By telling you what you did wrong, in front of everyone. I never joined the TMS. I have a deep fear of public speaking---and even if I could have made it through the talk (think routine), I couldn't bear to have my job critqued in front of everyone. Which may be why I can do it in college, but never could in the KH.
And do you notice that the later talks---given by brothers---are not critiqued like that? If I remember right, THAT counsel is supposed to be given privately! So basically, only the sisters and young brothers get criticized publicly.
That's SOOOOO JW!
