In Watchtowerland, spirituality is measured by field service hours.

    That are faked...

Me too, truthseeker, me too. And I think the "not a witness" part is key.

The WTS seems to have become far more restrictive on their marriage rules than they were back in the day when I was still attending (40+ years ago).

In the congregation I attended, it was not uncommon for JW young people to date 'wordly' people. However, the practice was not encouraged, and if someone was seeing someone 'in the world', the focus was on getting them to convert their prospective partner.

In the late 60s, the head honcho elder's daughter dated an RCMP officer for a length of time before she announced their intention to marry. Her super duper zealous father went into high gear, put the poor fellow through his baptism paces in record time, and then drove several hours to some location obscure location to get him dunked the week before they got married. We all got to see the groom walk down the aisle of the Kingdom Hall in the Queen's red serge uniform.

I jumped through the hoops and did a lot in my 20 yrs service...My problem was I was "too tall"....Yes several brothers told me that's why they didn't ask me to be Mrs. M.S. or Mrs. Elder. A " worldly" guy who was 6 ft to my nearly 5'10 didn't mind. Years later I wonder, why I didn't go for it? Wish I knew t.t.a.t.t. back then. Now I'm doing research on line and who knows, I might find someone who never even heard of WT....

The CO's wife immediately jumped in and demanded to know if I had requested to see her record card! According to her, anyone intending to marry a fellow JW was entitled to check up their field service..

    This topic makes me mad.....

Chemistry has NOTHING to do with a "perfect witness" couple and relationship!!!

It makes me so angry and sad that so many of us just married the "perfect" witness as measured according the orgs standards!

Did we know each other properly?

Do we really have anything in common?

Can we really talk openly about the very basics of what makes a happy relationship??

NO!!!! Not till AFTER we are married....... oh yep...too late then!!!

    raaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

    re records.

It suited the wt to hand over fs records of brothers due for induction into the army in South Africa so the courts could see how 'spiritual' they were.. the handing over such records sounded more like a form of blackmail to me.

The wts refuses to hand over though records dealing in the sexual predators that the wt has actual knowledge of.

This latest revelation to me of the use of 'records' is not un-similar to some cultures that demand proof of virginity.

I would like to ask that over seers wife would she approve of that?

Looking back, I think if I had seen a perfect record card I would have been disappointed. I once met a pretty young sister who did everything by the book and was, quite frankly, a real pain in the bottom. Hours, return visits, bible studies - everything on target and more. Meetings thoroughly prepared, TV and films all vetted for content, Peter Pan collar on long below-knee frocks, pretty much like someone from The Little House on the Prairie, a real nightmare to be married to.

All I wanted was a good-looking woman who was loyal, fun to be with and who'd sit with me at a bar whilst I got slightly drunk. I got one in the end but it wasn't from witness -land!

VIdiot makes a very good point. The normal selection criteria built in to us through thousands of generations of selection result in the fittest coming to the top of the gene pool.

Now we start an alternative process. Now we start selecting on artificial arbitrary criteria leaned from a publishing company. The offspring of that union will be pre-disposed to the same. They have been selected for the obedient door knocking, cart attending, silver sword swallowing gene. They are born to be GB supporters. Woe for the 'born-ins', maybe they should be culled at birth.

    Aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhh! I'm a born in.
