What is a militant atheist ? do they bomb churches ? or shoot pro-life doctors ?

Just askin'. I've never met a Militant Atheist.

Also, it is not necessary to believe in the various gods on offer to live a good life, so atheists are not part of the "anti-thesis of christianity" if christianity is the simple teaching of Jesus, and not the complicated ruminations of later believers.

Militant atheist is the atheist version of a fundamental, e x tremist Christain. Naturally, you have to compare them in the conte x t of the same times and culture.

Someone who is disrespectful and insulting to those who do not agree with him/her; who thinks that they are better/smarter/more enlightened (a bright, perhaps, lol); who hopes and seeks to thrust atheism onto all; and who in some cases would be rid of religion and faith altogether if they could find a way to do it, never minding the personal choice or freedom or benefit to anyone who needs/wants it.

That's my definition. Suppose I should look up the actual definition too. BRB.

Militant atheism is a term applied to atheism which is hostile towards religion. Recently the term militant atheist has been used to describe the New Atheism movement, [16] which is characterized by the belief that religion "should not simply be tolerated but should be countered, criticized and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises."

And how do you arrive at this assigned generalized percentage value? Surely you're not using information from polls/surveys/statistics.

No. I posted how I feel about polls and surveys being accurate ways to find out how many scientists are atheists or anything really. Big percent means a significant amount.

Take a look at the post I made about David Rothstein on page three of this thread.

That would put them on the same team as fundamentalists. Both annoying and potentially dangerous.

Are these people that supposedly belong to the 'New Atheist' movement organised? How EXACTLY are these supposed people dangerous?

I notice on the link that Dawkins is described as one of these militant Atheists....how is HE dangerous?

Still, anytime you have a movement that considers others "less than" themselves, there is potential danger from that group. Because people are dangerous. Get any group to think they are better, or that another group is dangerous and a threat to them and to their children, and there is danger from the people within that group.

Who are these organised Atheists groups that think this way tec?

And why make the assumption that Atheists think less of anyone else? From what I can see most if not all atheists value human life, and peoples rights.
