    Hey Black Sheep!

I missed that angle - love it!

Consider asking that Brother Hero answers one of the questions he has conveniently forgotten to get around to ..... BEFORE you watch the video.

He doesn't get to choose which question.

This is a condition of this visit. Heap some guilt on him for every excuse he uses to weasel his way out of answering your question.

He is really setting himself up for failure. As others have pointed out, and you noticed when watching already, it is full of inaccuracies, lies and is a whitewash of the past. You could stop the video when it mentions their comments about 1914 and highlight how it is totally dishonest. At the end I would be stating how you cannot believe how anyone would think some religion just springs up, along with a raft of others in the 1800's, and that you are expected to believe that particular one is part of an ongoing chain back to Christ, and that religion alone has members worthy of salvation.

Personally, I wouldn't watch it with the elder, as it would lead to a terrible argument.

Why does the video mention nothing about Russells pyramidology? There are photos of him in the video at the Pyramid of Giza (during his world travels) and the chart of the 'Plan of the Ages' is being held by his followers (taken from the book 'The Divine Plan of the Ages'). This plan takes all of the measurements from the Pyramid to fit in with Bible Prophecy and where Russell calculated the date 1914.

Gary, it's at this point you say "OMG! I was told that JWs doctrine was originally based on Pyramidology! I didn't believe it! I had no idea it originated with such a pagan concept! I thought JWs were Christian! -- Brother Hero, were YOU aware of this demonic background?"

I agree. Had someone over and they wanted to watch the video and I obliged. At the end, they asked how could I not believe this is God's organization. I basically responded with what jwfacts said in his post. The video is really about what man did and not what God did. On top of that they don't proclaim to be a channel of God. Her response was that they are doing the best the can. To me, that is not enough of a reason to have a lifelong allegiance to a religion.

I say watch it with him but don't attempt to disprove anything. The more you do that the more he will feel like his religion is the right one. However, at the end do let him know if you are not buying any of it.

Well, thanks for the responses so far. I believe I will take a rain check on this Saturday to allow me more time to prepare. He has not answered my original question on blood and do want him to answer that.

I am not sure which topic I want to bring up concerning the movie. The only thing coming to my mind is the part where they made a big deal about the book called, The Finished Mystery. According to the video, the witnesses were all excited about the book while the clergy of Christendom were all upset because it had a lot of bad things to say about them. That book alone would make their beliefs of the time look like laughing stocks but I am not sure how to use it to target the dishonesty.

These are some things I do know about that book. If I have any information off please correct me.

    • Demons are suppose to invade the minds of Christian churches in the year 1918.
    • Michael the Archangel is the Pope and his cherubs are his bishops and a war broke out between pagan Rome and papal Rome.
    • The Leviathan is a steam locomotive.
    • The distance of 1600 furlongs is the distance between Scranton, PA and Watchtower headquarters in Brooklyn, NY (provided you go by way of the Hoboken Ferrey and the Lakawanna Railroad).

    Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if it's a good idea for your wife to be there. It's hard to talk to two cult members at onceā€¦one feeds off the other, and they will go into groupthink. When there is only one cult member present, it will be easier to get them to think, and they won't be afraid of what the other cult member is thinking of them.

Don Cameron's book, Captives of a Concept, has a list of stupid things in TFM book that are all worthy of ridicule. You named a few.

Here are links to a couple of threads that deal with the subject:

The raincheck is a good call.

Bad info in the Finished Mystery is just passed off as 'old light'. "We have made much 'progress' since then, so don't be so nitpicky.", so you would have to get him to make statements that are contradicted by the passages you are, then, going to get him to explain to you.

Much of the dishonesty will be by omission. This really greases the porkies. I haven't seen the vid for a long time and I really don't have any desire to repeat the experience. Have you searched this site for commentary?

Your question should be chosen for the degree of trouble it gives him explaining that the GB is God's channel, not something doctrinal, which is, of course, believed in spite of anything he will read in a Bible, dictionary, concordance, interlinear, encyclopedia, etc., BECAUSE the GB is God's channel. Pick the question he most wants to avoid.

If you do a good enough job with your question, you might not have to watch the video, instead sending him off home to get the sensible answer he has just promised you .... again ....

... and make it clear that you are not interested if your wife won't sit in on the question. Make it their choice. They are welcome to have this discussion if the two of them are present. Put it to them that your wife might want to learn how an Elder would answer this question properly in case she gets asked at the door. If she wants to weasel her way out of this, she should feel some guilt. Guilt is good.

If they don't take you up on it .... well .... you gave them the opportunity ... and the door is still open ... all you want is an honest answer ...

    Hey Black Sheep!

I thought the light only got brighter in Brooklyn mate!

"Much of the dishonesty will be by omission. This really greases the porkies."

A major key to spotting and unravelling WBTS slight of hand, methinks too!!
