I know someone who was present when a guy started beating on her pregnant friend. The guy was BIG. my friend is small. She hit him in the arm with a baseball bat and broke his arm. She was charged. When she stood before the judge, she said "Look at me. Look at him. He was beating my pregnant friend. I'm no match for him. A baseball bat seemed like a good idea at the time."

The judge leaned very far forward and blocked the microphone and said very softly. "Good for you."

I know of several sisters who endured for years in a violent marraige. One sister's situation was well known in the cong and several around it, but all she got was a scolding when her husband choked her and she called the police. I can't imagine any one of these sisters looking at this paragraph and thinking that they should just suck it up and go back to the violent relationship.

Straight after this the conductor said "So is this paragraph justifying Steve's action?' to which the answer came from an older brother in the audience: "The study was not practising true Christianity. She had to study more. When she changed, the husband noticed."

Hello Winston, the conductor seems to be having a mini crisis of conscience himself. Enough to attempt to "clearify" the paragraph as to minimize it's abhorent content. The fact is that the paragraph IS justiftying Steve's actions. It specifically uses an ends justify the means argument to justify the abuse. It creates a perpetual loop that can only be solved by Selma achieving "true Christianity." Once Selma changes, her husband's actions are supposed to change with her. What if Steve doesn't change? That simply means that Selma is still being unchristian and the next step would be to identify the problem she has again. She'll have to go to the woman in the paragraph again and have the exact same conversation. It's a loop designed to protect men at the cost of the quality of life of women and children. The Watchtower protects men because they worship the idea of a Man as the head of the household. Egotism + Chauvinism = The Watchtower's policy for men.

Here is a video which showcases the Watchtower's end product for their precious men:

    Well said Sab.

Another proverbial equation.... religion = power = control = money

No wonder there's so many men getting involved or starting up their own religions.

After I took a step back from the Society, I saw why all my male family members fight for their right to be Watchtower company men. My cousin got his wife by wearing an old set of sweats on his first date with a pioneer. Do you know why she glossed over such a red flag? Becuase my cousin was being "looked at" for a Ministerial Servant position which was known by the congregation. He never became one, he just did enough to look good, bagged himself a hot wife and now she's stuck to him for life and he doesn't even go to meetings. All he has to do is stay faithful and he gets a domestic slave who loves him dearly and will put up with anything. It's good to be a Watchtower man, if you don't mind being an egomaniac, you get to choose one of the Selma's in the congregation.

Even more so if your a power tripping apathetic narcissist, having a submissive JW can really serve you well.
