Botch, I used to be a 1911 purist until I got my hands on the Croatian combat tupperware that is the XD. I love it.
Would you support "Open Carry" legislation in your state?

I have a Springfield 1911. It's the "GI" model. Love shooting it. Pretty much stock except for the sights. I really want an XD though. When I carry, it is either a Rossi .38 (IWB), a Kel-Tec P3AT (pocket), or a Sig P239 in .40 (armpit). The 1911 is just for the range, although I sometimes take it camping.

There are two types of hoplophobes.
First type is the average everyday person. They don't own a weapon and believe that they don't need to own one. Because of this, and because they buy into what they have been programmed to believe, they don't care much at all for anyone else to own one either. So they support type #2 with their votes because type #2 supports legislation and regulations that keep them and their neighbors unarmed.
Type #2 is the elite who is either a politician who has armed security or a private citizen who is rich enough to afford armed security. Like Rosie O'Donnell. Or the Congressmen who tried to introduce legislation cutting federal funds to states with stand your ground laws. Type #2 is the most dangerous because they have the necessary political power to do some pretty stupid s**t and because they FEAR anyone who isn't like them who owns a firearm. So they want anyone who isn't like them to be disarmed. But they'll still have armed security protecting them.
Am I getting through any thick skulls here?

Botch, I won't carry a sidearm whose caliber doesn't start with 4. I have very few weapons. My XD, my M4gery, and an Ithaca Model 37. If the fit hits the shan, I'll get the cool stuff but I hope it doesn't come to that.
This from a soldier who enjoys shoulder-firing a 240bravo. Most fun you can have with your clothes on!

I share the sentiment, but a .380 in the pocket beats nothing. It's hot here in Florida, and a heavy caliber isn't always easy to carry. I've read some really interesting stuff lately on the diminutive .22's ability in real world situations.
I too have an M4gery. Built it out of parts. It sits next me here at my desk just because it's pretty. I have a stripped receiver for my next build when Jr. gets old enough. Have an AK too, among a few other things.

As a civvie I don't get to play with those toys much.

I, like Simon, am a product of my English upbringing (with a good deal of Grecian influence as well). Whilst recognising my cultural biases and the undoubted infuence they've had in molding my opinions I just have to say that it's this sort of conversation that predisposes many Europeans to view America as NUCKING FUTS!

If everyone carried there would be less crime. When at the shooting range you don't hear of mass killings or random shootings. I would support it because it is your constitutional right.

I thought I was too jaded to be stunned by moronic stupidity. Obviously I'm not.
