Sorry to hear that.
Just venting - I hate the Society.

Are you DF/DA'd or just faded?
There was that sickening WT about two weeks ago about the family that shunned the son for 10 years "never even having the slightest bit of contact with him" That could have been the motivating factor, probably really tough for him from how you describe it.
Unfortunately we might hear more stories like this after that disgusting Watchtower article.

Sorry Donny!
Maybe, just maybe, your son's love for you may get him asking questions!

My son is an elder and has been for the past couple of years
Ah, yes. The pressure to be an example for the flock. Your poor son. He is trying so hard to be everything he's expected to be-you have to give him that! No wonder JWs are depressed-he must love you very much and this has hurt him so. What a lot of pressure to be under.
Maybe every once in a while you could send him a card with a picture in it of you and him together at a happy time, and just tell him you love him.
With all the stuff going on in JW land, Sparlock and abuse trials, etc., hopefully he will start to think about things differently.

donny,
I'm so sorry. I also hate how the WTS turns decent people into assholes.

To do what he did won't have been easy, he obviously loves you deeply. Be patient, he'll see the light.
Peace

What a bummer. I do find it interesting how he said you were the better parent but it didn't even open his eyes as to why that might be. I honestly don't think he will last very long shunning you. Just keep at him and don't stop trying.

I have noticed in this area that the biggest offenders re associating with df'd family, especially children and parents, have been elders. The "rank and file" see this and think there is no backlash on the elders; and there hasn't been here. The elders protect each other and warn off the rank and file with a shove that the R&F are not in a position to judge. So the WTS is clamping down on everyone and I'm wondering if they have threatened elders with removal even if it means fewer men to do the chores in the congregation. I wonder though, Donny, why your son is only keen to do what is "right" when he is pressured or thin's the end is nigh. After all, according to the WTS Abraham had no expectation of seeing an "end" in his lifetime yet he was "faithful." It seems that many jws value how those in charge in the WTS view them, not God. Quite hypocritical. It could be that this pressure will wane in time.
