Is Pacifism Ethical?

The difference is JWs argue they would take up arms if God required them to.

Believers would abandon every principle they hold dear if they thought god had told them to do it. They think Abraham's willingness to murder his own son was an example of virtue FFS!

Stop thinking all or nothing; black/white.

In what way am I doing so?

Libya is a country. Which military attack do you refer to that was based on ethical principles?

You are applying your personal set of ethics to everyone, and in every situation. Are you even considering someone making a stand against violence, using non-violence? To them, and to what they are trying to accomplish, that is ethical. I might not be an absolute pacifist, but I can still respect it. I don't have to see it as unethical.

It does not seem as if you are considering the other side openly. That feels black and white to me. But perhaps not. Perhaps that is just your stand, and you feel very strongly about it. In which case, though, your thread title is more rhetorical, lol.

Uh huh. JWs actually go a bit further and point out that God has required fighting in the past. So it is within their realm of possibility that God can require such a thing, even if they argue that he does not right now. They are not opposed to fighting in itself, they simply don't view current wars as legitimate. That's why they don't claim to be pacifists, nor are they accurately described as such in my view. Otherwise how do you distinguish them from people who view fighting as in itself wrong in all circumstances, i.e. genuine absolute pacifists?

Yes I am. If I see a woman being beaten and raped and I have the ability to stop it by the use of violence but I make a stand on my principle of non-violence how can that be an ethical position?

At best, pacifism is a well-intentioned but misguided counsel of perfection.

Absolute pacifism is immoral. You are no better than the person squeezing the trigger.
