Stating that you will not believe in something without further evidence - nothing wrong with that...
I have never met an atheist who would go further than that.

Stating that you will not believe in something without further evidence - nothing wrong with that...
I have never met an atheist who would go further than that.
Uh, it wasn't a book review. The article was about another topic.
I didn't say you said it was. It was an article about Darwin and God. And the book was used as a valid argument in the discussion. I'm not finding all the reviewers and articles that say the book is false.
If atheism is the natural way for humans, then why did it take so long for it to develop? Atheism is a relatively new invention. The natural course of life was for man to have God in his life (one way or another). Higher criticism is new. Atheism took a LONG time to develop. I'm not talking specific belief in God here. I'm talking about mans historically natural need for the spiritual.
Uh, are monkeys atheists?
Being that there's no evidence to indicate ANY belief in God in monkeys (OHH, LET'S ASK SHAMU!), I think we can safely say that ALL animals are atheists! AGAIN, the idea is NOT to accept ANY belief until there's a compelling reason or evidence to justify doing so. That's what rationalism call for.
So in terms of the total existence, humans (homo sapiens) have likely existed for LONGER as atheists than as theists (and you can trace the early beliefs of hominds in the supernatural for yourself). Belief in YHWH? A mere fraction, on the total time scale of life's existence.
I can tell you with absolute certainty..
The General Store is stuck where it`s at..And..
I`m going to have to drive to get there..
At which point your truck will move relative to the earth.
then I think it's silly and Watchtower-esqe.
Uncalled for.
I wasn't saying that about you, NC. I was saying it about KS.
humans (homo sapiens) have likely existed for LONGER as atheists than as theists
Really? That's where you wanted to go with your comment? Monkeys don't believe in God, so atheism has been around longer? Wow... That may have been one of the most unintelligent arguments I've ever heard. It should go in the best of section.
Oh - and hi Cofty. Not really dissapeared, just lost the energy to post on this thing with other things going on.
I'm not an atheist because I can't look at anything in nature without feeling awe and fascination
Ohh, have the JWs ever produced a DVD that you'd enjoy, as it's full of wonderment, fascination, and awe!
Yeah, my enjoyment of the natural world actually INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY the more I learned about it: studying it literally changes your view of things, rather than viewing it as purely having been made for entertainment and Glory-promoting purposes.
Well, of course it is: it's a faith based on knowledge, whereas religious faith is based on hope. Even the Bible defines it as being based on hope
Heb 11:1 "Faith is the assured expectation of things HOPED for"
You're reading this wrong. Faith is the assured expectation (the knowing)... of the things hoped for.
Faith is the assured expectation.
Nothing in that verse states that the faith is based on the hope. Faith GIVES hope; it is not based on it. And yes, some choose to believe because they hope for something to be true. But that is not what is being asked of us; and that is not what the author of Hebrews is stating here.
Peace,
tammy
So CA, Tammy et al what would it take for you to decide that your belief in god was probably a delusion after all?
