James Woods, this one is for you.

I wrote the world's leading expert on John Barry and queried him about the E-type Jag with the Maserati engine.

    Here was his illuminating reply:

And he's correct! JB did have an E-type in the 60s, but by the early 70s he had a Citroen with a Maserati engine. I guess that's where the confusion has arisen because as far as I know, the E-type Jag was just that! Ta, -- Geoff

Ha!, Terry - I will post that on Historic British section of the Ferrari board.

Everybody there said that this was pure urban legend - but everybody remarked on how pretty the E-type coupe was, along with Ms. Birkin.

    Especially Ms. Birkin.

One - who knew something about them - had this to add:

John B was the composer of the famous James Bond movies theme.

Jane Birkin...wasn't she singing with Serge Gainsbourg on the (in)famous Je t'aime, moi non plus? Caused quite the stir when it came out.

    Very interesting.

BTW - everybody who had one of those Citroen/Maserati SM cars emphazied the "Maserati" part because the car was such a dog.

Champion skier of the day Jean-Claude Killy also had an SM.

Indeed, even though Monty Norman is given the actual screen credit due to contractual agreement and was highly litigious when credit was exclusively given to John Barry in print--Barry took a few peculiar notes from Norman's song "Good Sign, Bad Sign" and transformed it (mostly rewrote it)

It appears on Monty Norman's album of 2005 entitled "Completing the Circle" but .... The Simpsons - Born...

into the world famous James Bond Theme. He also scored From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thundreball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Man with the Golden Gun, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, Living Daylights, etc.

Jane Birkin and Barry divorced over that Je t'aime song! A video came out along with it making it abundantly obvious that Gainsbourg and Birken were

    firken the Merkin!

Well, well - now everybody has learned something.

That Jaguar (in good condition) would now be worth close to $100,000.

A Citroen-Maserati (even if still running) would hardly bring $10,000.

I have a very difficult time with favourites since mine tend to change. Hard to tell you a favourite when there's always something new coming along. I'll think on it. Opera is a tough one as I'm not particularly drawn to it (does Phantom of the Opera count? ).

I noticed colour wasn't on the list. Right now, my fave colour is Purple. Has been for a while. Used to be Orange when I was little and that annoyed my Mom because there were no little girl's ANYTHING in orange (no dresses, tops, pants... nothing... at least not when I was a kid). My aunt used to make a lot of my clothes and finding orange material was tough too. I do have a pic of me with a great big orange ball in an orange dress. So it was possible... just not easy.

(I guess I'm kind of an anomaly. I never used to like to play with dolls. I think I had maybe a total of 3 when I was a kid. I preferred playing gas station, cowboys/cowgirls, anything to do with horses, riding my bike, playing street hockey, drawing, painting, colouring, etc -- anything crafty.)

You must have had fun on Halloween, Heaven - with the orange thing going.

OK - I will admit it:

This thread has started me constantly thinking about getting an old Jaguar XKE...
