Some very acute observations on this thread. It's so obvious that people are taking literature and starting bible studies because they feel terrible about what happened to Whitney.

Here's something I've been wondering about: if Holt hadn't murdered Whitney, but "only" sexually assaulted her, do you think she'd be in trouble with the elders for not screaming and trying to get away at the gas station?

Absolutely, that was my very first thought when I heard this - and I believe that Undercover concurred.

Like I said above - pretty soon they will be saying that this tragedy had a positive purpose in Jehovah's great plan.

The bank??? Yeah right - There is no way in hell security goes by the way side just because you have an acquaintance that works at your friend's wife's bank. I think the banking industry works slightly different than that (Unless of course it was a JW teller that felt she needed to obey Jehovah rather than Caesar and illegally violated all banking rules)

And if this has turned into such a beautiful witness for Jehovah, shouldn't the murderer get some of the credit for this bountiful witness and in pouring of sheep? Surely he should be praised for all the new Bible studies started.

This whole thing is such a clever con job on reporters and local law enforcement to placate them, and keep them from digging any deeper. Love bombing is indeed very effective! I sent an email to the local KATU reporter (Valerie Hurst) inquiring if they plan on interviewing Holt and getting deeper into this. I have not gotten a reply yet.

unstable Jonathan Hold but chose to do ignore the signs, how thorough will the investigation be if the local elders,

CO, DO (and I think one or two Bethel Heavies) have already charmed and wooed the chief, mayor and other

officials involved?????

That may well be their hope.

It has already been confirmned that Holt had child porn on his PC, and someone posted that he had been reproved recently.

It seems quite likely that the elders knew that Holt viewed porn - they ask all sorts of probing questions on a judicial committee, and won't hold off from DF-ing unless the victim, er, defendant, spills absolutely everything.

But you don't get reproved for "looking at porn", unless it is what the Society has labeled as "especially degrading" (or some similar language), and one such type they specifically list in their policy letter outlining this topic is child porn.

Was Holt on reproof for viewing kiddie porn?

What did the elders know, and when did they know it?

I suspect the police are professional enough not to be swayed from fully investigating this issue. The article mentioned the FBI being involved. Surely they would not let "thinking the world of JWs" interfere with their investigation.

Does anyone know if the police and/or FBI have been contacted with information related to Holt and his interactions with his congregation?

Technically, at least from 1960s-1970s JW teachings - she would have still been obligated by JW doctrine to scream and fight back.

Who knows? Maybe she DID - and maybe that is what got her killed.

But what is disgusting here is the JW natural urge to make the woman victim the guilty party.

Placements of literature are usually higher after a local tragedy. I guess it's a way for people to show empathy for the victims, or it gives a feeling of "helping". After 911 I remember the mags flying off the shelves for about 3 months. I guess until people started actually reading them and realizing it's just advertisement for a local, "church".
