I highly recommend people take a religion, ethics, or philosophy course at their local university.

In a cult which exerts mind-control over its members, it is called a "conditioned response".

They are indoctrinated with the idea that "only" their religion is absolute Truth, and anything.. and I mean ANYTHING that refutes or challenges that perspective is immediately dismissed as false.

    That is the case here.

You know, LDH, that is exactly the reaction that I'm getting from JW's I've spoken to. I thought it was just me. First they don't believe it and when I show them proof they don't care. These are people who are aware of the many books the JW's have printed regarding Babylon The Great and the Wild Beast. I thought they would be outraged, but they just don't care. Incredible!

    the comment was made:

You're right Lisa you can't win
    ##########

bottom line-- i understand lisa desire to SHOW HER FAMILY THE TRUTH,

but one of the first things that folks like Lisa and including myself, need to learn is THEY DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH - for the most part

that is why so many times after showing them TONS AND TONS OF QUOTES AND QUOTES they say:

"If that stuff is bad, but THIS IS STILL THE TRUTH-

WELL i will share with you a link that really gave me a different perspective on WHY IT IS SO DAMN HARD to get these folks to SEE THE TRUTH:

WELL CK OUT THIS LINK it gives some interesting thoughts on the matter:

    Bad beliefs DON'T DIE

    HOPE YOU ENJOY

I will tell anyone who is on this site as a lurker or poster, BEFORE you attempt to show a JW SOMETHING about the Org, Read this link and keep the thoughts in mind as you consider:

HOW AND WHEN, OR EVEN "IF" YOU WANT TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT THE ORG

I got one even better. My jdub mother-in-law reasons this way:

"Jehovah appointed the Socey as the FDS class, my job is to follow them as they are responsible for my spiritrual welfare, should they teach me wrong, it matters not. What matters is that I obey Jehovah's organization. In the end they will be responsible, not me."

    sheesh!

Rule number one of getting info to JW's: it is better if it comes from a non-JW or a JW. Period. That's almost everyone's first mistake.

There are or were at least 10 or 15 different posts on this board, where people called the Watchtower and were lied to or brushed off regarding the UN issue. I think that is a route I wouldn't care to take. Too risky. I'm glad you shared this, LDH.

I can understand trying to change your spouse or child, but not another relative or another JW. If they already are talking to you, that is more precious than gold or diamonds to me, and I would never jeopardize it with some kind of risky intervention. According to some estimates, over one million JW's have left the org...THEY ARE LEAVING. IT TAKES PATIENCE. GIVE THEM A CHANCE< THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO IT ON THEIR OWN.

I know, been there and done that.

    Jerome,

Actually I didn't think you were a troll--and never posted anything to that effect?!?!?

The fact is, it wasn't my sister but a much older family member, one who is just as ingrained as RR's mom that he wrote about.

This family member wanted to know when I was coming 'back.' This was a question I was prepared for. I answered that I would not be coming back until some personal issues were resolved. She wanted to know what issues, and (planned ahead) I made her BEG me to tell her. (As you know, JW are nosy, LOL). So I told her. Like I said, her reaction was "Bullshit." [8>] I expected that, so I advised her that I would be sending her copies of the responses I get from the WT to her personally. She said that I was now an "Agent of Satan" I guess I'll get a Trademark on that, LOL.

I believe age will play a factor, with the younger GenX JWs who were already deprived of a normal childhood being the ones outraged. They sacrificed it all, for nothing.

Nice to see you cruisin the board, RR.

JT, that was a fabulous article on why wrong beliefs are held onto tenaciously, inspite of evidence to the contrary. Very enlightening.

This whole thing is just so sadly, pathetically funny....and yet, we were all doing the same thing at one time.

Very frequently it takes something that hits very close to home and right between the eyes to make JWs even BEGIN to reconsider what they've been taught. Even then, the process is long, slow, and torturous.

    You know what.. your right.

It IS pathetically funny to someone looking at it objectively.

I tried to reason with my brother about the UN issue, the protection of pedophiliacs, the waverance on doctrine from a self-declared "inspired" prophet again and again.. and he just turned on the blinders full tilt, accused me of being an Apostate and the lowest scum of the Earth, and declared me spiritually sick and the Organization the only hope if Jehovah would be willing to forgive my most treacherous sin.

It hurt initially, but now I laugh at his naivety.

It is really unbelievable to see that so many witnesses do not really care what the Society did - their propaganda has reached their hearts and they believe this propaganda to be the absolute truth, no matter what anyone says. They don't believe in the internet: it's all false they claim - yet their own WT organization has an elaborate website, but that's okay and trustworthy, not anything else. If you show them physical proof, they would view it as perhaps false or exaggerated to the point that this tangible evidence is not really evidence at all since the Society must be backed by Jehovah and if otherwise, God will adjust matters in due time. So they then scoff at anything - they were taught the Watchtower's truth and Jehovah is backing them, so if there is a wrong, it will be dealt with in time and so it goes... When you tell a lie a thousand times, the lie becomes truth and fact and nothing else matters...yes robots they become, displaying a sort of mechanical love which is not real but something out of a science fiction movie - They walk around piously, as if their organization shows the purest of intentions, all the time bragging about their "brotherly love", how this is unique in the world where this love is otherwise non-existent. How do you reason with them and use common sense? - I do not think there is an answer other than when they fall by the wayside and get shunned, they will begin to open their minds to a certain degree and see for themselves how they were being manipulated in the name of pure religion, for most of them at least, yet not all of them - some will still stubbornly continue to believe the lie of intimidation even after they were disfellowshipped, for the reason that they want their family back to associate with them again. So much for their wanting to go back to Jehovah and get reinstated when their real motive is to get back to normal relations with their friends and families.... The mind of a witness is pre-conditioned to believe only what was told to them by the faithful slave, a brainwashing machine of continuous indoctrination, instilling into humans unnatural loyalty. Almost like a nationalism of some kind, where its citizens have received mind-altering directions to follow a constant ritual of rules and adorations more characteristic to aliens than to ordinary human beings who on the other hand crave for uncontaminated compassion based on genuine and godly love...
