I live in Hercules. It was something to see that much rain. The winds last night kept waking me up though

That was a lot of wind! Not as dramatic here, Flipper, as in your area, but still pretty windy. Loads of rain. I hope everyone is OK, no flooded basements or roofs blown off.
It's a wonderful thing to be a human being and experience weather, isn't it? Or am I an idiot? Today, clear blue sky and right now the sun is setting. We're in shadow down here but Mt. Shasta is gleaming red and gold and white -- I wish you could see it. My dang camera died, so I can't take a picture.
Eva Luna, when are you driving this way again? Anyone else -- let me know if you're on highway 5 heading for Oregon, we can meet for lunch at the Black Bear Diner.
Let us know how you are Flipper -- and all you other NorCal folks.

Near Flipper here but lower, on the waterfront.
Flooding at several local homes. Helped clean up. Listing boats had to be retied as water was covering docks and tie-downs were taut to the breaking point (or pulling clamps off dock planking). Rooster tail off spillway was stunning. Sunset, like yours, Hortensia, was beautiful: fluffy and tall clouds of white and gray and pink scudding across the tops of freshly scoured hilltops . . .

No major problems here in the Bay area, some localized flooding and power outages, but no widespread problems. The sun even came out for a while.
Berengaria, I made chocolate chip cookies today too. I have a kindle also. I just got the Kindle fire a few months ago but it stopped charging. I bought the warranty, even though I don't usually, so I took it back and the upgraded me to the newer Kindle fire HD. It is much better, the screen is a lot clearer, and editing is easier too.

I guess you west coasters are experiencing what my area went thru four weeks ago, but sounds like it's not as bad as Sandy, altough I live in one of the hardest hit boroughs, my immediate neighborhood, besides fallen trees didn't lose power, only thing my building lost was Cable, which is the same thing that happened last year with Hurricane Irene.

The wind must have been over 60 mph last night. It BENT the neighbors metal chainlink fence over! He had privacy slats- and they made the fence into a sail. Looks like a wax candle left in the summer sun.
We had 2 trees come down. The giant old Oak splintered and missed the house (saved me lots of work). I had been staring at that for over a week trying to figure how to safely take it down without hitting anything! All done for me.
It is amazing how something HUGE and old (100+ years) can look so strong, and be so full of hidden rot..............

wow, balaamsass, you were lucky with that oak tree. could have been disastrous.
Shirley, this was nothing like Sandy, although there was some significant damage in some areas and some flooding north and south of my area -- Oregon and the Sacramento/Sierra foothills areas.
Chocolate chip cookies, ummm. I made a mince pie a couple of days ago and have been nibbling on it. Not real mincemeat, but lots of apples, dried fruit, spices, orange zest and rum.

Thanks, Size.
My mess wasn't exciting compared to that of others, I guess . . .

I was sitting here at my computer during part of the storm, sipping coffee and watching the rain while thinking about CoCo skipping from boat to boat retying the moorings, balaamsass and flipper armed with chain saws against those oak trees and Mrs. Jones with her shovel. It all sounds pretty intrepid to me! Cleaning up flooded houses maybe not so much fun.
