Happy rainy days, you NWesters! Six inches of rain in San Francisco sounds like a lot for that area - hope nothing important slides down a hill into the ocean!

It's over here. Blue sky and loads of fluffy white clouds. Can't see the mountain yet.

    Gosh, I love rain.

Greetings, all you rain lovers . . . me, too!

Here in the Sierra foothills, an hour's drive north of Jonesie, it's a mess; a neighbor's black oak came crashing down at 1:30 a.m. and, fortunately, plopped onto the forest floor, no damage done. Ditto elsewhere.

This afternoon, a young woman in a hurry went like 50 down our main thoroughfare, passing cautious drivers who were observing the basic speed law. She passed them on the left, crossing the double yellow line. She got to the stop sign ahead of everyone else and received what was, I'm sure, the angriest honking at of her life from several motorists.

HORTENSIA- Me and Mrs. Flipper are about an hour and a half north of Sacramento in the Sierra mountains and it's expected to get 8 to 12 inches between Friday and Sunday night . I had to work in it last night from midnight until 9 : 30 A.M. so yeah, lots of fun getting soaking wet loading and unloading equipment . Up in Butte county, Plumas county and Shasta they are expecting 12 - 16 inches from Friday to sunday night I believe.

COCO- Hope you are O.K. That's a close call with your neighbors oak coming down. We haven't lost any trees - yet- emphasis on the " yet ". Just watched the local weather with Mark Finan on Channel 3 Sacramento - apparently we are going to get slammed hard Saturday night from about 9:30 P.M. until noon on Sunday. Then it will let up and end. As the old expression goes " time to batten down the hatches " ! We have a great oak woodstove fore burnin' so we're ready with wood, flashlights, and plenty of food if power goes off. Hang in there buddy

Thanks, Flipper! I appreciate your concern. You stay safe yourself.

I remember those days of loading and unloading buffers and mop buckets, etc. I hope you'll get things a little easier before you wear out.

Peace and love to you and the mrs.

With all the government warnings and sandbag notices I was expecting to loose power this week...so far..so good. Very little flooding in or Nor-Cal area.

We have a VERY old recently dead GIANT Oak tree in the backyard I need to take down before it ends up in our bedroom. It caused a bit of sleeplessness when the winds hit 50mph for a bit yesterday. Ugh ...quite a project.

BALAAMS buddy- Hope you and the wife are holding up O.K. through the powerful storms. You might want to keep an eye on that oak tree one more night as tonight is supposed to be the most powerful of these 3 storms ( and last of the 3 ) with sustained winds they tell us in the Sierra of 60 MPH ! Believe me, my wife and I are watching these swaying tall pines and oaks very carefully here in our Sierra home and property ! Hang in there my friend hope all is well

Many years ago I was visiting LA and it rained. The freeways were jammed and we missed our flight out. The airline was understanding, explaining that everything in LA comes to a standstill when it rains. Now, I live where we have winter 8 months of the year (sometimes snow in June!), and our roads can be a deadly mix of snow, ice, wind, fog, whiteouts. One year I drove from Montana up through the border in a complete whiteout. Thought I was going to die (and I had my four little girls with me). So I found it a bit funny that LA would be so challenged by a little rain. Guess it comes down to what you become accustomed to. Weather extremes challenge everyone.

Raining very steady here in the Northern Sierra mountains right now. Will be even harder rain tonight though. It was quite windy overnight and this morning so far and I expect stronger winds tonight

Well at least you don't have to shovel the rain.
