1975 - A weak argument?

Cult members are only allowed to believe what their leaders tell them to believe.

So, ask yourself this question: Why did JWs believe 1975 would mark the End of the World? (We know they did believe this, because a large percentage of them left the organization after 1975 came and went.)

Did they get this 1975 idea from a religious source outside of the WT organization? Of course not. They're not allowed to read outside literature. Were they attending church services somewhere other then the Kingdom Hall and JW assemblies and conventions? Of course not, this is forbidden.

So, where did they get this crazy idea about 1975?

To me, the answer is self-evident. The idea came straight from Brooklyn.

Finkel I think your more insulting and second post was written while I was writing. Apologies.

So stupid or redundant as it may be, the REALITY of the mind set in question relating to the OP, is exactly what I stated.

For you it is clear cut. I agree that the language is loaded. But the double talk confuses the average JW. Point blank they claim to be a "prophet" in the "uninspired" way someone declares something. They do not claim that God speak to them like Moses, the prophets of old etc.... They claim that their use of the word prophet fits the definitiaon I gave above.

I am not arguing FOR the WTBTS here. just trying to deal with things actually as they are, not as I personally think is the only reasonable way to view them. For the 50th time, I am here to learn and try to pull people out of this. So I am developing a war room strategy. Alot of people come here with that focus no?

When JWs, (personal friends) are ALLOWED to sell their property to finance full time ministry because 1975 was "suggested ? ", its obvious that org. abused their flock's total loyality and allowed them to ship wreck their home security and family life.

Just remember there isn't a hole in the ceiling at Bethel... WTH?!!? The GB who is not inspired, but spirit directed has to put scriptural truth on the back burner until the " proper time " , like the next generation nearing death..... ot the old GB members dying off...

    LeavingWT nailed it.

    Christ Alone:

I came in after 1975 and I can honestly tell you that the 1975 fiasco was not mentioned. Not a peep. If I had known about it, I would have thought twice about joining the JW religion.

It was only afterwards that a "friend" mentioned it when referring to a woman in the hall who was becoming inactive. He referred to her as a "'75-er". When I asked my study conductor what 1975 was all about, I got a fluff-over answer of "people who were serving for a date and had no faith, etc.". No more mention was made of it. It wasn't until years later I heard little bits pro and con here and there.

After reading the posts here and what I heard on my own, I would have to say the religion was guilty of promoting it (never mind their weasel words). Also, stories of people selling their homes and plunging into financial difficulty because they believed this pile of shit is truly heartbreaking.

Any JWs who lived through the 1975 fiasco and are denying the religion promoted it and insist on clinging to the religion are gluttons for punishment. How can I feel sorry for them?

I was there for '75. Don't forget that the furor over '75 didn't just stop immediately after '75. Once '75 passed, we felt that now we a REALLY close, big A could come any day, hour, or minute because it is now due. It took a while for that urgency to fade. Hudson Valley NY

And lets make one perfectly clear and honest, there wasn't and isn't any accurate chronological time table in the bible to use as a reference.

We are talking 3000 BCE. - 4000 BCE. , any educated Bible scholar past and present would honestly admit that, unless its coming from a

rogue charlatan (WTS.) trying to sell some books .

If you listen to this speech at a convention you can actual hear the guy (I think its F. Franz) say that 6000 years will come

    to sundown September the 5th.

    http://archive.org/details/WhatIsTheSignficanceOf1975

This guy should have gotten the award for the biggest Bullshitter of the Year

    What balls !!!!!

Goes to show what kind of stuff the GB men of this organization can and did get away with.

One might say prodigious BSers of the holy kind.

I guess they figure they had the power to Bullshit as well the structured semblance of power to protect themselves.

They may not have said so in so many words, but the thought was certainly left hanging there, and it was plainly obvious what they wanted us to think.

With all communication, it is not just what you say that matters, but more importantly, how it is going to be interpreted (this coming from somebody involved with High Voltage switching operations, where mis-interpretation of a written message is likely to result in death).

All I can say is that if the WTS didn't want us to think that 1975 was a probability, then their communication skills were abysmal!

One fact that get missed for obvious reasons is the WTS. tried this 6000 year trick ( marketing ploy ) previously

    before, prior to 1914 occurring.

So once again, is 1975 and its unaccountable 6000 years scam worth its weight in showing how devious this religious

publishing house can be ? The only truthful answer is YES.
