I remember the Daniel book putting a big picture of Napoleon in its discussion of the King of the North and South…and apparently he was neither. I was confused! Then I wondered, “Is he like the Mule in the Foundation series? An unexpected anomaly?” I’m still confused why they put Napoleon in the Daniel book.
Nice comments Lars
I recall as a kid reading the old Babylon book and the king of the north and the king of the south was a big prophesy pushed by the dubs and my wacko brother in law.
Londo, I can't recall what the Daniel book actually said about Napoleon, but he is pivotal to the modern flourishing of end-time prohecy speculation. In 1701 one Robert Fleming published a book, The Rise and Fall of the Papacy, in which he interpreted the Daniel prophecies as indicating the demise of the Papacy. He believed that the prophecies pinpointed the end of the 18th century and predicted the fal of both the French aristocracy and the Papacy. So when the French General Berthier marched on Rome and took the Pope prisoner during the course of the French Revolution, it looked likeFleming was spot on. The result was immense interest in the prophecies, attempting to identify the time for the great climax of human history and the second coming. (See: Counting the Days to Armageddon, p22; and C. O. Jonsson, The Gentile Times Reconsidered, p140.)
This began the era of the flourishing of end-times movements, beginning within the Protestant mainstream and eventually being abandoned to the sectarian fringe. Rusell was, in effect, the last in this line of interpreters.

I know I bent many a ear in field service groups over this topic.
I had a personal study project where I printed a verse by verse commentary of Daniel 11. Of course, the commentary basically came straight from the publications.
As the apostle Paul said about his former way of life, “A lot of refuse!”
Rob,
Yep…I remember that. Until the 1930’s, 1799 was the start of the Last Days. Bible Student theology was essentially lifted from the Second Adventists. The only thing left of the Second Adventist chronology is 1914.
Maybe the Napoleon stuff in the Daniel book is a distant nod to “old light”.
after the daniel book came out, nothing has ben said about it in at least 10 years. did that prohecy get thrown out the window when the soviet union fell?

No. The GB is now a UN NGO affilaite fulfilling Daniel 11:30-31 as the USSR falls out, the 3rd placement of the United nations falls in, in 1990 forward;
But the GB are UN agency so they do not want to explain that they are part of the treasonous "they" that have aided the fulfillment of Daniel 11:31b, ""they" will certainly place the UN disgusting thing...";
So, in other words, the GB are manifesting as the "man of lawlessness" (2Thess2:3-4; Zech3:1-3), and do not want to talk about prophetic 8th King UN developments that would incriminate them, since the USSR cannot fulfill Daniel 11:36, or any other Daniel 11 "King of the North" prophecy, because that applies to UN KN globalists since 1990 and the fulfillment of Daniel 11:30 with the Daniel 11:30 traitor GB aid;
The GB are UN allied operatives to cover up globalist world developemnts in overdrive since 1990 3rd UN placement;
That affects Daniel 8:11-14 erred interpretation as well; That is also 1990 connected, and results in the Daniel 8:14 temple judgment period that this transgression will lead to soon; But the GB wants to ignore this as well;

In other words JWs are being diverted; (and it is all prophecy prior to the end cycle)
Both kings went south. There were rumors about drinking, down in marguritaville.
