    Path,
I am glad you brought up the parallel situation in Mexico. This double standard has bothered me a great deal. For it is hard for me to understand why the brothers and sisters in Malawi (sp?) had to be horribly persecuted while at the same time the unaware brothers in Mexico did not have to suffer those things because of a different stance.
This seems to have been the case over the years with many different issues. And it seems terribly wrong to me. How sad that different policies and standards for different people and different areas has permanently hurt so many.
What makes it worse is that Society seems to make no retraction or apologies to those it has harmed.
And Df'ed, we do want you to post. But it is something of an enigma to me as to why you would associate here with ones who are questioning the Society and some who have no intention of ever getting back. Although, I am of the mind that each individual has a right to make their own decision about what they want to believe in and support. And I must say, that I respect your defense of the WT even if I may not always agree. Tolerance of others is very important to me. Regardless of whether I agree with them or not.

    give df'd a break.

he is expressing his opinions which he is entitled to.

he does not agree with everything the WTBS does but has come to a different conclusion i.e. that Jehova may be using an org. that makes mistakes etc.

why can some of you not accept that someone who still believes in some of what the WTBS does may want to post here. If my conscience allows this - why not.

what some of you seem to be saying is renounce the WTBS or stop posting here. in my view posting here and wanting to be reinstated does not make df'd a hypocrite.

sorry for rambling on but this has upset me because now I don't feel as welcome here anymore.

Anyway, about Malawi - with "todays truth" do you think purchasing a party card would be a matter of conscience. I think it probably would. And if that is the case most JW's there would probably decide that their conscience would allow buying a card in order not to get killed.

This is where the GB has made grave mistakes in the past, by wanting to totally control everyone's conscience even if it meant going to jail or loss of life on what some would consider trivial "compromises"
i.e. compulsory voting. I think very slowly this is changing.

I strongly disagree with df'd that nothing has changed re. voting with the Q from readers in the WT. I think this is not about whether it is right or makes sense to support governments that may be replaced by God's Kingdom. I think in such a matters (voting, blood issue) the WTBS has no right to dictate the conscience of JW's.

They used to do this and JW's got jailed or even killed by extreme regimes because of it. Now its a matter of conscince and no one will get jailed, killed or df'd because of this issue. That is a BIG change for the better.

Hope I'm still welcome to post here occasionally.

    I don't vote

sorry the I don't vote bit was part of a sentence I though I edited out.

I don't vote because I still believe in staying neutral but I would vote if it was compulsory because I don't think Jehova would want someone to go to jail on such a trivial matter as filling in a void ballot or even a valid one if its a "one party election". You are not exactly supporting a dodgy regime by such a vote. There are orgs around that know how much a "free" election is worth in country's with a dodgy regime.

I appreciate your comments Mark. And I say you are most welcome, as well as DFS. While DFS might be holding an unpopular position here, I find he has carried himself quite well in spite of what I must say was a poor welcome by many of the regulars on this board.

Many people are quick to forget where they came from and how they felt and thought at one time. Some can be downright rude and manifest the same intollerace to other's thinking as did the group from where they came. I think DFS has much he could offer in the discussions here and I am interested in his perspective and what he has to say.

i dont vote either, lack of interest and lack of choice of who to vote for,
I dont have a problem with df, he's been up front about wanting to return, he doesnt need me to be his conscience (bet I spelt that wrong) I'm not going to shun someone just cos their presence may be transient depending on how long it takes to get back in, and if he chooses to leave or stay after that time, thats his choice too, its not going to give me ulcers.

I dont know what the guidelines are on elders getting reinstated, (I know one who was dd for a good 7 years if not longer and that was with not missing one meeting in all that time)it could be a while before df gets back in depending on the elders there, and as far as I know theres no boards specifically for dd and wanting to return,
so where else can they go?

going now, having a bad spelling day :-)

    Mark,
    Welcome to this DB.
I'd like both DF'ed and you to continue to feel welcome posting here. Many of us here have already welcomed DF'ed under the Forum/ Making New Friends.
I've come a long way in the last 45 days but I still recall quite clearly how supportive I was of the WTBTS back then. I think he not only has the right to follow his conscience, but also the right to express those views here.

    Hi Mark,
This board is made up of JWs,exJWs and never will be JWs.
Of course there is freedom of speech here.
Everyone has a right to voice his or her opinion.
I don't think anyone here wants DF'd or yourself to stop voicing your opinion.
Those of us that have had our eyes opened to the goings on in the WTS
are eager to share and discuss that knowledge.
So of course when someone such as DF'd sticks up for the WTS,it's only natural that there are going to be those that are ready to stress what they know.
Please keep on voicing your opinions.
No one wants you to stop.

    neyank
