We have cats and bears in our densely populated gated community. Lots of walkers here, accompanied by their pooches. If it's approaching dusk, I frequently see the ladies home.

Hey outlaw -I am impressed. Your response was honest and kind-natured.
Life being what it is, the chances of either or both girls later leaving is statistically high - so, in one way you did them a huge favor by just being direct (i.e., telling them you were raised in the religion) but nice-mannered (i.e., wishing them well).

As long as you don`t surprise them or come up on a cub..

If you Piss one Off,back away..
If you think there may be some around,make noise..
You could even put a few rocks in a tin can and rattle it..
That should suffice..
Big cats are a different matter..
Do not make eye contact with them..EVER!!..
Back away..
If theres an object like a trash can lid handy..
Put it between you and the cat..
I know of one kid who picked up his bike as a shield..
Then moved away..
You should really consider purchasing Bear Spray..
Don`t fire until the animal is right up to you..
I carry mine everywhere I go..

Outlaw when you said you are an hour out from town, I was thinking this is a 30 hour pioneer month, maybe these yoo - hoo's , said a prayer before 9 AM, made a call and the whole car group is stacking up big hours today...without any other thought in their tin hatted brains, except...counting their time! lol What a waste of quality life. ( facepalm ...shaking head)

BTW, just talked to a neighbor where I'm currently house sitting. A cat was a few days under his porch and finally wandered away.
Hey Outlaw, you should call or write to the local hall and chew someone out for sending these children to your door without a male adult with them. What could they have been thinking ???
