RayPublisher,
Was that in the Awake just as is? I mean, not taken out of context? If not............ Oh Lordy........... anyone who stays in after reading that DESERVES to be a JW! There is no hope for them I am afraid.
SWITZERLAND
A study in Switzerland states that there is a
14 percent greater probability that a person
over 60 years of age will die on his birthday
rather than on other days. On their birthday, people
in general suffer fatal heart attacks 18 percent
more frequently, women suffer strokes 21 percent
more frequently, and men commit suicide 35 percent more
frequently. Scientists assume that stress and alcohol are contributing
factors in the increased rates of suicides and accidents. Some experts
contest this study, however, believing that human error may account for
many matching birth and death dates
Yep, just as you said Raypub. Totally unbelievable!!!! Love how they write so alarmingly only to end the short paragraph that "human errors may account for many matching birth and death dates.
It is EXACTLY this kind of writing that I was able to pick out at age 9 and shake my head at. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WRITERS AND THE PEOPLE WHO READ AND RELY ON THIS CRAP!
Dubs love to use obscure facts and statistics to back a point. If they can find a case where it's .00000000000000000001% more likely to happen, they will print it as a fact.
It seemed that my elderly friends died just after or during a special anniversary date. I was once told that ones close to dying hang on to see that special time and then expire. I don't know how true that is, but it just appears to me to be so.
"human error may account for many matching birth and death dates"
So they suggest that a registrar may say 'Hmm, born on X of X 19fortysomething , and died on the' (mistakenly copies the same date again)
Yes that seems much more likely......So why print the article?
I haven't met a man yet who can handle his weight in birthdays.
Hey I guess if you will illogically conclude that celibrating birthdays is forbidden for christian due to 2 occurrences of people being hanged on someone's birthday in the bible, then this bit of minutia could add some weight to the illogical reasoning. But yes I have to agree that it seems like the Watchower is grabbing at straws to support their lopsided reasoning and this is the best they can come up with some lame study where partying causes a slight increased in probability toward your time of death happening then. I wonder what they found for christmas in that study maybe a 16% jump.
You know for a printing corporation to waste time, paper, and ink printing this doesn't spell good decision making at the top, these guy's on the Governing Body need to be fired and replaced they are running this corporation into bankruptcy uneducated CEOs discouraging higher education do these guys even have a clue?
How many people have died while sitting at meetings or going out on field service?
If they hadn't been doing those things then they wouldn't have died doing those things.
Therefore, those things are dangerous.
Yeah, WTS logic is awesome!
