  I'm an American. I don't understand how any thinking person can find the graphs offensive. There are many good things about America. But if we are being honest, in general, our politicians and taxes aren't going in the direction of making the lives of all US citizens better.

  To be quite honest, I don't know too many Americans who say America is "the best country ever." In fact, lately, I've seen loads of Americans voicing just the opposite opinion. I'm an American who has actually lived in another country. From that experience, all countries have their benefits and their detriments. And the citizens of most countries will have love for their homeland and consider it the best place for them to live. Isn't that fairly normal? I understand judging people who make blanket statements, but sometimes it's more a clearly personal statement or hyperbole. Really, though, most Americans don't say that.

  Those graphs show some of the bad things about our country. I will say that maternity leave is crap. I had a coworker who had to pool all of her vacation, sick, and personal days for her "maternity leave." She worked until her due date, the baby was a week late, and she only had four weeks to spend at home. This isn't really the status quo, though. Most places provide maternity time. Some even provide paternity time. I just work for a bunch of douche bags.

  flying high ...yea i get your point about Sweden and high taxes...but the size of Sweden and the small population, taxes must be high to pay for the roads and for the maintenance of snow ect. I think in Sweden the elderly are well looked after because the country has no millitary and few people and i think it has little to do with high taxes, despite that being used by the government as a reason for high taxes.

  I think living in England the problem was owning the empire and thus giving people from that empire the legal right to citizenship, compound that with all the people from lands that now have the right to live in the U.K and its over populated. This is not the case with Sweden. Sweden works because it only looks After 13 million swedes.

  Going back to the original post " America is over rated" i have a friend who moved there. He was interested in American films and T.V . So he wrote a book on it. Did he make money? Mcfarland publishing he got nothing financially. But he had theself drive and determination to write that book. To write this book he made contact with Frank Price the ex head of universal. Frank said " why should i contribute you i have never heard of you and you never wrote a book before" ....Any way cut a long story short, Frank did help and gave the name and adresses of celebrities. My point the bogus America superficial dream of materlisam is over rated but America also allows people to have self drive and determination to have a dream and live it.

  sweeden has a sizeable military.

  without high taxes the government would run a deficit if it had large expenses, like caring for the elderly. This stem from basic addition and substraction.

  Then why not just divide england into about 10 parts with less than 10 million people in each and problems solved?
