Where's the chart that says which nation has the most millionaires/billionaires per capita?

That would most likely be Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, etc.

I think that "American exceptionalism" is at the root of what folks like to call "bashing". I have 2 friends who are in the process of losing their homes ... hard-working, university degrees .. sending out resumes / interviewing for years ... but NO JOBS. Since they are middle-aged, the minimum wage jobs don't go to them "they will leave as soon as they find something better" ... check out Michigan ... I think it's Flint, where 1/3 of the population no longer have city services like running water and electricity ... ppl are dying because of no medical insurance ...

Stop telling us how much better you are than the rest of the world. I mean stop SHOUTING it! And you wonder why this is an issue? ack

Our Canadian politicians are fast turning into corporate shills as well. We are losing our universal health care (we now have a two-tired system), jobs are scarce and underpaid, and educational costs are going through the roof. It's getting ugly!

Thing is, I can't tell you how many times I have read, on this very board, that America is BETTER than any country in the world. I wonder if that tune will change when the draft is re-instated? Oh, I bet you missed that one last week. Obama is proposing "Mandatory Public Service" for EVERY American ...... hmmmmmm......

I look to France, which has universal health care, FREE university education for all ... and how about Iceland? Or Sweden? These countries are, imho, far better to their people than either the US or Canada.

Randism, xenophobia, American exceptionalism, fairy-tale wars on nebulous targets (drugs, poverty, terrorism) and gross interference in other countries' business - these will be the downfall of this once-great nation, and Canada is following behind - lol, you say the US is our biggest trading partner ..... yeah, we build dams and water systems designed to give them our water (for next to nothing), we drill for oil, refine it, and send it down south and they pay less, it's a real Cluster F**k (to use an American military term) ...

    *sigh*

And, Think About It, please don't call me crazy again. I know you love your country RIGHT OR WRONG, but *this* Canadian loves the American PEOPLE, and is very sad to see what is happening south of the border.

The jobs market in the USA has improved recently and as a result our Aussie dollar droped from $1.05 American to $0.92 American it seems the Americans are on the way back.

Hard work gets you ahead is part truth part fallacy. There have been many studies that have shown this. If sooner read the Atlantic article that Betsy posted he might know that.

I think you are pretty out of line to compare that aguement to Lars.

I met some wonderful people when I visited the USA,so friendly.

There is good & bad in every part of the world.

We should view our planet as a whole.......it's the only one we have.

The English have always known American is overrated.

The difference between America and England is: the American people are kind but the American system is harsh; the English people are harsh but the English system is kind.

Utter nonsense..................I'm English & I'm an ol' softy.

Only this morning I cut roses from my garden to give to a work colleague for no reason other than I felt like it.

Obama is proposing "Mandatory Public Service" for EVERY American ...... hmmmmmm......

I could see the need for that. Most in the military signed up to get a free education, NOT to get shot at. Recruitment is likely a bit tougher right now. It would also remove a lot of young people from the field of the unemployed. It wouldn't hurt for 18-25 year olds to get a little of life's real experience instead of drinking matches at college. It might be a good thing to have lots of volunteers at VA hospitals and such.

Of course, I'm too old to have any worries about it affecting me personally.

Well I guess if your a lazy lay about youth, and you don't want to work, or study or contribute anything to society,

then I think it's the best solution to a big problem.

It should be mandatory for them to join the army for a stint.

They will learn a lot, and I'm all for it. joining the army doesn't necessarily mean 'front line'.

    Over in the UK. N.E.E.T's

Youths NOT in Education, Employment, Training. And they don't want it neither.
