Damn! I was just at Canmore a couple weeks ago walking down the nature trail skirting that river. My peers and I were talking about the huge snow pack and fear of precisely what’s going on now. It was raining then too.

Lots of flooding in eastern and Central Europe too. I just missed the worst of it, and the Rhine and Danube looked full snd beautiful.

It was in the 80's or higher in Fairbanks, AK..........so far no disasters here, we made our quota over the last 5 years, floods, drought, tornados; I don't understand why people live so close to lakes and rivers, get flooded out and then rebuild there. We are at the highest point in our area and we have a basement.

The whole town of High River has already been evacuated. A number of neighbourhoods being evacuated in Calgary - with the river that close to your backyard, you may end up among them, Simon. Hope things go well for you. Take care!

Think About It - roads are closed in Banff, you may not be travelling too far! And here you thought you'd escape the FMM rains. :)

It's nothing to fool around with - already Black Diamond, a town south of Calgary, had a trailer swept away by the flood, and apparently at least one person missing.

Meanwhile, Colorado suffers from wildfires. The most destructive in the state’s history—the so-called Black Forest fire—continues to burn in the country west of Colorado Springs. More than 500 homes have been destroyed and the authorities expect that number to increase once the fire is fully contained. Two people died when they could not evacuate in time.

It has been dry with temperatures soaring over 90F/32C and no rain in the forecast. Earlier this week we had tornadoes on the plains east of Denver and heavy hail with stones over 1 inch/25 mm in size falling in the country south of Denver. Our snowpack is also rapidly melting but at least the runoff isn’t being aggravated by heavy rain.
