Is This Site As Active As It Was In The Past?

*sigh* APOSTASY has gone mainstream.
Now all the kids have their hover-boards and synthetic freeze-dried ice-cream...
Back in the day we had Kingdom Hall wars, and elder-to-elder full-contact deathmatches!
Back then we were GLAD to clean the toilets at the convention grounds because it made those damned fresh sandwiches almost palatable!
Somebody remind me: what kind of car did the Apostle Paul drive?

Search the subject of "declining forum posts". It's a problem just about everywhere.
Social network sites have taken a big slice of forum activity.
Content is precious and hard to produce. Those who can produce readable and engaging content start their own blogs and get their own following.
It's no fun to take time to write a post and watch it disappear over the time horizon.
Feedback on individual posts are essential to prevent serious posters from drifting away.
Forums need to use some of the simple techniques that facebook uses. Everything on the internet is subject to evolution.
Facebook will inevitably lose it's hold. There will be a resurgence of discussion boards as various formats merge their tools.
Simon is right where he needs to be.

I was an active poster for years but left because I felt some of the female posters were bullies and this place started to feel toxic, I maybe check in once a year? It's a shame because this site was such a support to me but after a while it just felt like a pack of people made it almost impossible to post something with out them coming in and being nasty.

We've been addressing that. It's a long and difficult process but I think we're getting there.

Like a Roman coliseum we could have "votes" of thumbs up or thumbs down on every topic.
If the threshold of likes is below a certain standard the topic is removed and the poster who originated it is sent to their room
to contemplate the useless waste of time they've engendered.
After 3 duds in a row a poster is banished for life and can only visit the official Watchtower site.
As you can see, it is a good thing I'm not a moderator!!

I miss the feature that used to allow you view the most popular topics of the week/month/year/all time.
I do, too. I'm at the point in my post-JW life where i check in here maybe once a week. It'd be great to have a way to easily pick out important JW news. Those topics were always at or near the top of the most-viewed list.

Yeah, we know what you are saying. Not hard to figure out.
The big clue is to see how many posts they make in proportion to the political threads they try to dominate with nasty. They are no more inrerested in JW related subjects than they are in bird watching. JWN is just a place to vent their political put downs.
Borong.
Just a suggestion to Simon, but the political threads have burned off more participants in this site than any other thing.
IMHO

No one's forced to turn in a monthly report on what threads they post on
in order to stay an active member here. Folks post where they want
or has the post guide lines changed
