Can anyone do a more or less quantitative comparison of this strident statement with previous strident statements of the same ilk, with respect to specificity in word choice. With WTS, words have secondary meanings like in doublespeak, and doubleplusgooddubs can hear it like a dog whistle. In my 25 years in I don't recall something with such specificity of wording.
Danger Witness Robinson! Danger!!!

I think the references to Jim Jones etc. are way off base.
The Bible is full of crazy stuff.
Religions ask people to do all sorts of things that go contrary to rational thinking.
If you want to be a Jew we've got to cut off your foreskin. OK I don't need it but it will hurt like hell.
Under no circumstances should you eat blood.
Kill the Amorites.
March around Jericho 7 times and then shout.
Pick the men who don't put their face in the water to get a drink.
Kill a lamb. Eat the whole thing. Make sure you have some bitter vegetables with that. Paint blood on your door post.
When you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies - get out of there.
BIG DEAL.

Dear rmt1, there was a similar expression by the WT, in a Watchtower magazine around 2005, and I don't think that was new, I think they had said something similar before, maybe Blondie will help, please ?
The reason I am so sure of the earlier one, couched in more or less the same words as this latest one, is that, as I said on another thread, it started Mrs Phizzy on the road out, she rejected the idea of following blindly as just plain wrong, and downright mad.
It is my hope this latest rant, coupled with the Noo Lite nonsense of the July WT, will cause many more to "wake up".

@marvin - you might want to put a bit of thought into choosing your blog titles
http://www.reliablesoft.net/what-should-i-write-in-my-blog-and-how-to-choose-post-titles/
I would suggest including the words "Jehovahs Witness" and "Watchtower" would be a given.

I don't understand the title so it's lost on me. I take it it is a reference to a phrase used on some TV show I've never seen.

besty,
I appreciate your recommendation, and it is well received.
First and foremost my blog is written for and at my pleasure. If I can’t have fun with it then it’s a waste of my time. That’s how I feel about it.
In various ways I have fun with each of my blog articles. In this case it was with the title. Some get it. Some don’t. I didn’t title it as I did for anyone’s sake other than my own. It was purely for fun. If I can’t have fun with it my own way then I won’t do it.
I don’t particularly care about the level of readership. I do care about having fun. I do care about helping people. I do care about good research. I do care about fairness.
So long as my content is well researched, fair, is helpful to whoever reads it, and so long as I can have fun doing it then I’m content.
Oh, and insofar as this particular title is concerned, so far it seems to be working quite nicely. After reading your and slimboyfat's remarks I checked my blog stats. For whatever reason, this particular article seems to be a bit of a hit. Maybe it's that fun-laced titled.

So what does it mean? Where is it from?

Some WT quotes on soundness of mind:
*** w09 5/15 p. 15 par. 9 Youths—Make Your Advancement Manifest ***
“Soundness of mind” involves being able to think and reason sensibly. It includes the ability to face things as they are—not the way you would like them to be
*** w97 8/15 p. 17 par. 1 “Soundness of Mind” as the End Draws Close *** To be “sound in mind” involves showing good judgment, being sensible, discreet, rational in our speech and actions. It means letting God’s Word rule our thinking and actions. (Romans 12:2)
*** w90 9/1 p. 27 par. 17 Are You Qualified to Serve? *** 17 Sound in mind. (1 Timothy 3:2) An elder must be sensible, discreet, and prudent. He should be purposeful and rational in speech and actions. His humble, balanced thinking is based on godly wisdom and on the healthful teachings of Jehovah’s Word, of which he ought to be a diligent student. Does that sound like... "All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not. "? -
Oubliette
slimboyfat, the thread title is allusion to Lost in Space, an American TV series that ran from 1965 to 1968.
The little boy was Will Robinson. At a dramatic moment in many episodes the robot would shout, "Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!"

“So what does it mean? Where is it from?”
Oubliette understood it (see image supplied on page 1). I used a variation of the phrase “Danger Will Robinson! Danger!” It resonates with baby-boomers. More importantly, I had fun using it.
