Oh I watched that a few times on a Sunday afternoon when I was little. It alternated with Litte House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Rawhide, and another western series with Apache Indians in it I forget that name (although it was actually the best of the lot).

I think besty was just trying to help you get better search engine results and more readers, not trying to stamp on your fun.

Yes. That’s how I read it. I appreciated besty’s recommendation and why it was offered. It was well received.

    Great article Marvin.. as usual.

Old school JW's including older members of the GB (Jaracz included) felt that when 'the time comes', the direction will be that similar to the destruction of Jerusalem, "Get out of the City"

This would come across as irrational as that is where many have homes, work grocery stores, family members. Old timer and respected Bethelite Jack Nathan, used to go on for hours about this and on several occasions told me that is the best advice when the great ribulation comes, when government turns on religion, etc. "Get out of the Cities just like Lot and his family."

I have a feeling that is likely what the authors in Writing had in mind but didn't want to come out with that advice..yet.

    My two cents

Thank you. I left in 1999 and this quote struck me solidly. David Koreshesque. I wish they would have let this one drop earlier.

It doesn't sound like a drink the koolaid statement, it is definetly a ploy for following Orders uncritically that come from the Governing Body/Printing Corporation.

How far will they try to take this is anybody's guess as the goings get tuffer for the GB the more wacko they will get trying to keep alive the delusion till it finally falls to pieces(nightmare stage of wishful thinking).

Christopher Booker described wishful thinking in terms of

“the fantasy cycle” ... a pattern that recurs in personal lives, in politics, in history – and in storytelling. When we embark on a course of action which is unconsciously driven by wishful thinking, all may seem to go well for a time, in what may be called the “dream stage”. But because this make-believe can never be reconciled with reality, it leads to a “frustration stage” as things start to go wrong, prompting a more determined effort to keep the fantasy in being. As reality presses in, it leads to a “nightmare stage” as everything goes wrong, culminating in an “explosion into reality”, when the fantasy finally falls apart. [1]

“‘must be ready to obey any instructions they receive, whether these instructions appear sound from a human standpoint or not.’”

    "AN APPALLING DEMONSTRATION"

There is no question that the Jonestown tragedy was a case of the blind leading the blind and both falling into a pit. (Matt. 15:14) The entire episode underscores the wisdom of Jesus’ command not to exalt men .”

Good catch, ADCMS! The quote from the July 15, 2013 Watchtower should definitely be presented to people in general along with the above quote from the May 15, 1979 issue – side by side – so people can see the situation objectively, which should cause the “danger light” in their head to start flashing.

Perhaps anyone unlucky enough to still be dragged out in the show-of-loyalty-to-the-organization (which they piously call “field service”) should take along some older copies or printouts of that 1979 Watchtower, with those particular points in that particular article highlighted in yellow for each householder (along with a yellow post-it note bookmarking where it’s located on page five therein if they have the actual original magazine). Both those Watchtower magazines should be offered together as a pair. Hopefully the householder would see the connection and know enough to simply throw them both in the garbage, and better still warn their family and friends. No need at all to feel bad about doing that, really – after all, it’s all supposedly from the same place, ain’t it?

This fact saddens and, to an extent, frightens me... I have LOADS of people in that I truly care about, and it scares me to think what possible dangers might lay ahead of them. Whether it be mental anguish or physical, who knows? I just hope this façade comes crashing down sooner than later.
