I thought it was only creationists who had the propensity to take things a bit too literally. I see that is not the case.

Well adamah I wouldn’t call myself an atheist but you can if you like.

Yeah, the thing is I don't really care enough to label you as anything, really; instead, YOU should care enough to figure out what your beliefs are, since the onus is on you to get your point across, and not on US to try to 'untangle the mystery'. I was simply pointing out that you were fitting the definition of an atheist more than a theist (looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc).

As for your other points they kind of take the subject well away from the topic.

Yeah, well I asked you a question:

But next obvious question is, how do you determine which parts of the Bible are to be taken literally vs allegory/metaphorical?

which stemmed directly from your statement:

    Seraphim said-

As for the God of the bible, I don’t believe it exists if one takes the bible literally.

Since you opened the door, I was asking a reasonable follow-on question about how YOU determine which parts are literal.

But instead, you seem to want to evade and engage in woo-woo talk? That sure looks like dragging one's feet off the merry-go-round, since you want it to spin the other direction since you don't like the way it's going.

    Oh, on this-

I guess it depends on the student, after all a blind person doesn’t make for a good photographer.

My, oh, my: isn't THAT a bigoted thing to say?

Remember I am only really talking about the need for a metaphysical framework and the atheist subset that doesn’t countenance any metaphorical claims as legitimate. I’m not arguing for the existence for God in this thread.

Yeah, I'm not following you, either, and unfortunately I have a personal rule-of-thumb which prohibits me from reading any post that contains more than two uses of 'metaphysical' in it (and you exceeded it earlier, when you used it 5x in a prior post). Sorry, but me no speak pseudo-intellectualsprech.

Sorry that I don’t meet your excepted criteria. Anyhow you can start another thread to ask me those questions about the bible and God if you like, and I will answer. Just didn’t want to on my own thread which to be fare was not about how atheist like I am or the finer points of theology.

I know cofty can be a bit rough at times but I can't see any reason for not responding to a request to explain what one means by a specific statement. I don't understand what you meant either.

I did try GromitSK. Considering I have written quite few post explaining my reasons for thinking the universe is not all there is to existence, it’s a bit much to also explain the detailed nature on none universe substance. It is very much like trying to explain why quantum particles can exist in two places at once despite the evidence that they do and then rejecting the whole idea because it cannot be intellectualised directly.

No thanks, as I'm not really interested in seeing what your convoluted answer might be, to be honest (been there, done that). You haven't even managed to explain the point of this thread (and the title suggest your sharing some deep contemplative thoughts, but instead it delivered a string of false/questionable premises with gaps so large an Olympic long-jumper would have a hard time making the leaps).

Then when Cofty took you up on the offer of trying to untangle the mess, you refused to clarify, apparently being unable to explain what you meant as if he's the one who lacks the cognitive capabilities. And you accuse HIM of being arrogant?

Sounds like you need to take the hypothesis back to the drawing board, and see if you can't work some of the kinks out first.

Seraphim there was a poster a few months back named Lars. He used to post some hard to follow stuff, but he would also admit to doing mind altering drugs. So...... Do you?
