  As said above, they simply wish to use their rendering in this version as a tool of control and discipline, it is not anywhere near a good or proper rendering of the Greek.

  It's nothing about better translation. It is all about control. Brazen is their way to close all the loopholes. Brazen conduct. Brazen attitude. It will be used for all the things that don't fit into pornea. The internet has made possible all kinds of new sexual activites (think Skype and cams) that were only considered "uncleanness" or "loose conduct" by the past rules. You could not be booted out for such things (at least not easily). Disrespectful attitudes towards the Organization, leadership (GB), and even the Elders will all no longer be tolerated. DFing keeps dissenters from infecting the R&F with bad ideas.

  Exactly DOC, they can interpret any dodgy behaviour as worthy of DFing now.

  SBF, why slip in an anachronistic word in a revision they claim is to reflect the way people speak (and therfore think) now ?

  Why not use the easy to understand renderings of some of the better modern Translations ? i.e "shameful deeds" or "evil ways" ?

  Yes you could be disfellowshipped for loose conduct and uncleanness, it's in the elders' book. I don't think the phrase "brazen conduct" is a terribly meaningful change in itself.

  In the original Greek, one of the several meanings of the word translated 'brazen' is 'insolence', as in the context of being 'insolent of standards of decency'.

  However, methinks (nice old word) that 'insolent' will be applied to anyone who refuses to knuckle down to, or disagrees with, an elder/s - thereby being subject to whatever judgment & punishment they see fit.

  'Hypothetical' (loooooove that word now!) situation - Witness is exposed as looking at websites such as this, and is then counselled to stop doing so. On being found out that they are still doing so, person will be DF'd - not for looking at the websites, but for being insolent of the Glorious Ones/Princes counsel!

  Brazen sounds a bit more comprehensible than loose conduct to me. I've heard non-JWs use brazen, but I've never heard a non-JW use the term loose conduct.

  slimboy - if someone is "loose" that is often used sexually. Loose conduct (to me) indicates that they are sexually 'loose' FWIW. And good for them, I say!

  In the vernacular, brazen has connotations of inapproriately forthright sexual expression, as in "brazen hussy", i.e., a shameless and promiscuous woman.

  As with most of the Watchtower's attempts to replace unusual and nonstandard words with more readily understood alternatives, the alternatives seem just as odd sounding. I suppose kind elders could give intended recipients the choice:

  "Do you want to be accused of "loose" conduct or "brazen" conduct?

  As my old Uncle Pelican once asked, Why can't I be accused of both?"

  I will be interested to see if there is another example of an anachronistic and strange expression being used as a revision in this NNWT.

  If not, then this one is in for a reason, as said above.

  The word translated into loose conduct and now the GB changes that to brazen conduct is "Aselgeia". which means filthy, lasciviousness, wantonness.

  The GB changed it to brazen conduct, which means put on a bold front, stand one's ground, be defiant, be unrepentant, be unabashed

  "we were shaking in our boots, but we brazened it out". Obviously the GB is changing that part of the bible for all of those waking up who decide to take a stand. Brazen conduct is absolutely nothing to do with the original word Aselgeia.
