jgnat - Its a good point. Pragmatism must take precedence over ideology in the real business of government.
The changes we are talking about would no doubt happen gradually.

Or hopefully, the reality of governing a country would result in the country changing the religion.
This may have happened in China already. It is evolved in to a meritocracy.

I think the point of making this thread was the realisation that christianity - or any faith based system - is totally unsuitable for secular authority.

Yes, and I like that this thread explored the theme. I think, though, that the issue is broader and that any ideologically based government is bad for the people. And I think, evangelical fantasies aside, that a government run by evangelicals would bow to the pressure of reality.

Taking the topic wider, I wonder if that is why there it has become quite difficult to differentiate between political parties in the UK and in Europe in recent decades?
Have the days of political ideology gone for good? Maybe it's for the best, but I long for some good old tub-thumping rhetoric by a politician who still believes in something.

Go onto Google and research the Dark Ages. Research the Law of St Benedict. Would you like to live under those conditions? If Christi-SCAM-ity ever gains dominance, the whole world will be one great big monastery under the Law of St Benedict, which is every bit as oppressive as Sharia Law.
