Personally when I look at a living conscious being (especially my children), I see a miracle.

Of course I also struggle with the presence of suffering, evil and darkness.

I have personally test driven the road map that leads in an opposite direction, and found it does work, and that we have only begun to scratch the surface as to possibilities.

you sound the same way i use to think when i was in the org.I use to always say why doesnt god just speak to the whole world that way it would remove all doubt as to weather he is real or not.I always got the standard you must not put god to the test answer, but look at it this way if he spoke to the world that would greatly reduce the ones that would be in line for destruction doing the big A.At this point i no longer care if god exist or not it's obvious he doesn't care about us.No way a heavenly parent and that's the best example i have would allow so much suffering and misery just to prove someone wrong, and why did we get holding the bag we didnt question his authority, that's something i could never wrap my mind around as a jw it makes little or no sense, just like using men to write your word.

This topic reminds me of this:

    Hitchhiker's Guide of the Galaxy
    written by Douglas Adams

The Book: The Babel fish is small, yellow, leechlike, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy received not from its own carrier but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. It then excretes into the mind of its carrier a telepathic matrix formed by combining the conscious thought frequencies with nerve signals picked up from the speech centers of the brain which has supplied them. The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language. The speech patterns you actually hear decode the brainwave matrix which has been fed into your mind by your Babel fish.

Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the NON-existence of God.

    The argument goes like this:

`I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'

`But,' says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'

`Oh dear,' says God, `I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly disappears in a puff of logic.

`Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

Most leading theologians claim that this argument is a load of dingo's kidneys, but that didn't stop Oolon Colluphid making a small fortune when he used it as the central theme of his best-selling book, "Well, That about Wraps It Up for God."

Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.

Aren't those of us who have such a truly special relationship with Jesus, akin to dating, so much better than those of us who have never experienced that smugness? It is not attractive. This stance proves to me that the born-again fundie evangelicals do not know Christ as they claim to do so. God embraces. She does not select some and reject others. Oh, my, I am so special b/c we have such a nifrty, groovy experience. Tough luch losers!

Did not the Society once teach that miracles ceased at a date certain, I believe the death of the last of the Twelve. Such a mighty God, creating the universe, animals, sea animals, glaciers, agriculture, Incarnating as a Man (well, not that one), feeding the multitudes, raising the dead, curing the lame and blind, and voila, nothing.

My mom used to add commentary after meetings when we were alone in the car. She always wondered about the plagues in
Egypt and the destruction of Eguptin military power by the migthy Red Sea and a few chapters later, returning to gold calf worship. Our overseer (literally and figuratively) was antisemitic and would imitate the Jews complaining about missing their leeks and shallots. Well, I would miss them, too. Egypt chronicled so much yet never chronicaled the plagues or the Red Sea fiasco. Imagine the PTSD of survivors guilt, your beloved children walk free after the Passover while every Egyptian family loses its sons.

Anyway, does anyone recall the Society's explanation for the lack of miracles? The Mormons had their golden tablets.

The purpose of miracles was to authenticate the performer of the miracles. Acts 2:22 declares,

“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles,

wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.” The same is

said of the apostles, “The things that mark an apostle—signs, wonders and miracles—were done

among you with great perseverance” (2 Corinthians 12:12)

Is this a miracle little old ladies purse makes air-bag go off... does it matter ?
