Well, I never thought I'd say this, SFPW, but that last post of yours up there...I agree entirely.

SFPW - I'd still take my life over theirs any day.
I agree when you say that the GB don't live to the level of a pop star, with their MTV crib. But they do have a very financially comfortable life, with no concerns about money. They are provided with nice rooms, great views, servants to cook and clean, new cars, unlimited travel, and a lot of cash in hand donations. And the adulation they receive is definitely Rock star/ tele-evangalist status. Why would you take your life over theirs?

Is there some kind of sliding scale of troll?
Bro M is the new uber apologist.
SFPW is sounding more logical.
I don't recall having to morph from one poster to another when I made my first tentative posts here. Did I miss a special meeting on this?

The more material things a person has, the more they will have to repair, maintain, or replace? This is only the case if you are talking about cheap crap. The more cheap crap someone has, the more hassle and headaches they become.
However, if you have more quality things instead, you have a better chance of it working when you need it most. Flashlights, for instance. You have cheap crap ones, you have dead lights and dead batteries. However, get a nice quality one, or several, and the batteries last longer and the light is more reliable. You have many brands to pick from--Sunwayman, Olight, Fenix, Nitecore, Jetbeam, Terralux, and Klarus are among them. Pick your favorite, and buy several. In reality, the more you have (along with low self-discharge NiMH batteries), the less likely you are to not have one where you need it or to forget it. Buy quality battery chargers, you get to simply pop batteries in the charger instead of running to the store to buy depleted batteries when a storm is forecast. And they last many years. Cheap crap chargers, on the other hand, ruin batteries.
This goes for everything else. Clothing from L.L. Bean last many times longer than clothing from the big box store (namely, Walmart). Appliances that are premium quality outlast cheaper ones, with fewer repairs to boot. (And do a better job, ruining less food and using less energy.) A good computer with good software runs better than cheap crap--and it pays to learn how to replace your own RAM.
As a bonus, if you get good quality stuff instead of cheap crap, the more you have, the more likely you are to have the right item for the right situation. You get the right tool to do something efficiently instead of wasting time, ruining your project, and possibly even getting hurt. You need a light in your closet, you have the right one hanging there. You get LED light bulbs, you have fewer of them blowing at inopportune times (or, as those squiggly things too often do, burning down your house). Regardless of what the washtowel says otherwise, I find it far better to have the right tool on hand to do the right job, and with minimal fuss and muss.
As for more maintenance, which is worse? Putting batteries in a charger, 16 at a time per charger (and I have three of them) when there is an approaching storm? Or going to a store, probably in heavy traffic and having to waste time because my favorite store is out of them and having to go to a store I hate or settle for price gouging? Going around in pitch dark because I don't have a flashlight or candle and the lights are out? I definitely think it's less of a headache to stuff 50 or more batteries into chargers than to push, shove, fight, pepper spray, and trample my way to my least favorite store in the world to pay too much for them.

I do not always agree with Mike but he has as much right to his views as anyone else on here. He has not broken any posting rules either. Surely what makes this forum healthyis its alloeing a robust exchange of views - even views that are miles apart.

Point well made SFPW! And i would add as well that while this 'encouragment' to live simply is given, everyone must also give us the money you have left. "You mean you have no money left this month? Oh ok, just use the credit card machine in the assembly hall foyer then! Ahh! Doesnt it feel all cosy and spiritual to now have NOTHING to buy your kids a school bag? Oh thats right! They shouldnt be going to school!!!!"

Bro Mike, you said some really supportive things to me when I first posted, and now you have gone back and I am out.
SFPW- lemme get this straight, you think that Higher education is good, and the admonision to have a simple life is bad? What happened to the apologist? Pure worship is to live in poverty is it not?
SPFW- Nonsense tho about how the GB don't live in luxury. You said they don't live like popstars and then went on to describe a luxury lifestyle traveling around the world, 5 star hotel, and silver service restaurants.
We love you here SFPW, keep it coming
Love Sam xx
