I was a chemical analyst. I loved my job, and love chemistry. I worked in a variety of fields such a pharmaceutical and industrial. By far the most interesting was nuclear. I was a nuclear scientist for British Nuclear Fuels Limited.

LOL! Not really, I was a QC chemical analyst. I did split the atom on a daily basis though. I worked at my career for 10 years and became quite proficient with all the analytical instrumentation and troubleshooting techniques. I also was able to calculate what changes the factory plant needed to make in order to bring the product back into specification.

Then I made a drastic stupid choice to put a publishing company first, before my bills, and my mortagage. I gave up a career that I loved to Regular Pioneer.

Jehovah, did not provide anything. I did become a good teacher as I put effort into finding people that wanted to learn about the bible. Sadly one got baptised and is trapped because of my involvement. My financial predicament is procarious to say the least. I cannot get back into my career as my break has been too long and my experience not current

Happily I am young and can do a little teacher training to become a chemistry teacher

Did you give up your career for the kingdom? What did Jehovah provide for you?

    This JW did

What do you think of his and his wifes claims? Kate xx

Pioneered out of High School instead of going to college Ouch!

designs, did you make up for it, or spend you whole working life as a pioneer?

I think the JWs family's claims, from the article are nonesense. The husband had a rubbish job working awkward hours. He just needed a new job that was better for his family. The claim that Jehovah provided a new job because he put the Kingdom first is nonsense IMO.

He put his wife and kids first, and now has a different job so he can spend more time with his family. Kate xx

Yes.. I gave up a steady job to Pioneer.. I hated the Pioneer Ministry . It was hard enough to go out in service but to do so just because 'one had to get in so many hours today' was totally soul destroying. My promised partners disappeared leaving me to get on with it . I ended up not doing it and spending too much time in bed.

But for me as a late teen or twentysomething I could correct the situation. I got my old job back and got life back together. Did I receive any "blessings"? No, none that I can recall. I accept since I lived at home my finances were not desperate and I did not expect money to be given by anyone, but some brotherly support and encouragement would have been nice.

I had a friend a few years later, with a wife and rent to pay who did the same thing. "trusting that 'no one righteous will be looking for bread'". He soon found to the contrary and got his job back too.

As for Cedars' example? If the man did just as it is reported he was wrong even by WT standards and the elders should have told him to support his family.

Sorry to hear your sad story, Kate...

    Kate,

Acting on the instructions of the elders, I threw in my apprenticeship (Telecommunications technician) so that I could enter the "full time service."

Admittedly, this did not immediately lead to be "pioneering", but well before that year was out, that is what I was doing.

Did Jehovah provide for me? No.

Rather, I would pioneer (either regular or auxliary) until I ran out of funds, go back to full time work for a time, then re-enter the pioneer service:

    - and so on, almost ad finitum.

But not quite - by the time I was 23 I had woken up to myself. Through contacts my father had in the industry, I was able to get taken on as an adult electrical apprentice (Not quite the same thing I started out with, but close enough!)

Matt. 6:33 - tell that one to the Marines!

    Bill.

Kate- I pioneered up to 1975 ( I know, laugh or cry I don't know which). When I left in 2000 I enrolled in college, great experience, and believe it or not we didn't build any golden calves.

It's a common scenario, be thankful they didn't, they did you a favour. You were able to get your career back on track.

Another poster said a similar thing, I think it was Julia Orwell, she said it was discraceful for him not to hand in any notice and no show for a shift where other emplyees would be burdened for the extra work. (Julia please correct me if I am mistaken). Kate xx

    Bungi Bill,

Thanks for your experience. It's good for lurker's and apologists to see what pioneering has done to many. It woke you up to reality the you need to provide for yourself. Well done 23 is very young to work it out. Congratulation on your career. Kate xx

My mother is a total JW fanatic, but the one thing she never agreed with was not getting a n education. She insisted that my brother and I did well in our "O" and "A" levels and then found Jobs where we would be sponsored to do a degree. My brother enetered the Civil Service and I found a Job as a QC Analyst with a Unilever (and then ICI) where I was paid to go to college. I did Chemistry and then a Masters in Business Admin.

Her reasoning was that doing day-release or block-release at a local polytechnic / university would keep us away from all the drugs and sex that a full time student would be exposed to.

*edit - My JW-elder brother did a degree in History paid for by DWP.
