true you can not fight terrorism and not expect backlash. I fear that we have becoming the very monster we are fighting.

The vast majority of the people do not have any level of hate for all of America, but they are going to NOT trust that the military or the government will act in their interest in any way. Would you love the people that bust up your wedding parties with guns and missles? Would you trust them to act in your interest ever?

    Desirous of Change said,
"Thinking that any citizen of the Middle East could have stopped the 19 terrorists is the same as thinking that any average american has any say about the drone strikes"

I think that is kind of profound and that point was lost years ago. All reason fled because of the dramatic, horrific nature of 9-11. We got played by a very (relative) few men-and we gave them a real show. Still are.they are dead and we are still reacting to them. And we think we are the sophisticated ones. Uh, huh.

The article quoted says the Interior Ministry of Yemen called threats of Terroistist Plots targeting vital institutions and government buildings as one of the reasons they partnered with the USA on the drone strikes. Also in the northern part of Yemen the muslims are battling it out with each other for control...doesn't sound very democratic to me. I do not sanction drone strikes, but at the same time, the US isn't the only one involved here. Personally, it would be fine to me if the US pulled out of all middle eastern countries and let them kill each other in their fanatizism.

We have enough problems control our own population from killing each other, we should mind our own store first and if there is something left, give it back to the local communities and citizens.

designs: This is the 60th anniversay of the overthrow of Iran's leader Mosaddeq, 1953, by the CIA (who finally admitted it). You wonder if Ike Eisenhower was in on it or had his hands tied.

Maybe Eisenhower could not refuse. The Brits asked the Americans to help, as they could not do it themselves (wonder why?). The intention by the then Iranian Parliament to nationalise the Iranian oil industry, upset the nearly bankrupt Brits as they relied on cheap oil to power their navy.

the consequences: Its remembered by ALL Iranians to this day. If I bring the topic up to Iranians who fled the current regime, they all remember and express their disgust.

The American plan was to bribe enough people to destabilise the Mossadegh government and army, get Mossadegh deposed and bring back the tame-cat Shah. It worked but it led to plans to depose the Shah, and the Iranian clergy took the lead and eventually succeeded.

So clearly, the results of the CIA coupe against Mossadegh (a very moderate man) was the establishment of the current Iranian government.

Amateurs and fools should not be allowed to play international politics.

    JW daughter:

The vast majority of the people do not have any level of hate for all of America,

How can you be so sure of that?

You're really stuck in JW mindedness if you believe that.

REPORT: Even Before Obama Expanded Things, Drones Killed Way Too Many Civilians

    BRIAN JONES JUL 23 2013, 7:45 AM

A new previously classified report from the Pakistani government details how, even before he increase in tempo and questionable drone tactics of the Obama administration, strikes from American drones resulted in a high number of civilian casualties.

The report, titled “Details of Attacks by NATO Forces/Predators in FATA,” was obtained by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

The report, which stretches from January 2006 until October 2009, details a startlingly high amount of collateral damage in the Pakistan government’s casualty tally.

Of the 746 people killed in drone strikes over that period, 147 of them are described as civilians. A shocking 94 of them were children.

That count largely lines up with the tally kept by the New America Foundation, a nonpartisan American think tank.

The period outlined in the report fell predominantly in President George W. Bush’s tenure in the White House. President Barack Obama heavily expanded use of unmanned aerial vehicles to prosecute terror suspects. Obama’s most active drone use fell just outside the purview of the report, in 2010, where 122 drone strikes resulted in 849 deaths.

In a recent speech, Obama addressed the high tempo of his drone strikes, particularly those outside of Afghanistan.

“Beyond the Afghan theatre, we only target al Qaeda and its associated forces,” he said. ”And even then, the use of drones is heavily constrained.”

Pakistan, Yemen And Afghanistan Have Children Too,

And They Are Being Killed by Our Drones

    Posted: 09/10/2013 6:58 pm
The death of a child -- any child -- is always painful and shocking. The awful gassing of children in Syria breaks the heart and tortures the soul. We all should and must speak up about this outrage.

But the deaths of 178 Pakistani children by American drones must also be acknowledged. We must put an end to killing children in the name of security. As National Security Advisor Susan Rice has said, "Nations cannot unleash the world's most horrific weapons against innocent civilians, especially children." She was talking about chemical weapons, but "death by drone" is equally horrific. Take one look at the photos of children killed by our drones, **provided to me by Noor Beham when I made a trip to Pakistan last year, for graphic confirmation.

According to U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power, "These weapons kill in the most gruesome possible way. They kill indiscriminately. They are incapable of distinguishing between a child and a rebel." Again, the quote refers to chemical weapons, but replace "rebel" with "militant" and she could be talking about drones. Whether Syrian or Pakistani, children should not be victims of war.

As the administration calls attention to the terrible killing of children in Syria, I call upon them to acknowledge the killing of children by U.S. drones, and to immediately halt our drone attacks in Pakistan, Yemen and Afghanistan.

"Children should not be victims of war."

So take a look, and then tell me that you do not think they are as human as American children? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf8bnYF-WxE&feature=youtu.be
