Can you link to the Breyers website where they say they don't make ice cream anymore? They still list ice cream as one of their products.

I've never been a fan of that light airy stuff people like to call icecream. It's about time some regulations came along.

It is probably all to do with cost and shelf-life / stability. The new product is probably less sensitive to storage conditions and temperatures so reduces spoilage.

Traditional products, even the ones we think of a 'fattening', usually aren't as bad as the synthetic ones and are healthier.

When you take a litre of wonderwhip icecream and see it weighs only a pound and compare that to half a litre of proper icecream which also weighs a pound, then you know that something is wrong.

I'm not really into paying for air, because that's what is used to "beef up" the volume.

It all comes down to cost. Icecream tends to be rather sensitive to temperatures and so storage conditions have to stay the same. The cold chain cannot be broken, especially when it contains dairy.

I agree Simon, I would rather have a small amount of ice cream than a big bowl of "frozen dairy dessert" . I guess that they think that consumers wont notice the difference, and eventually people will get used to it and prefer the fake. It worked with butter/margarine and maple/corn syrup. I haven't eaten margarine in thirty years, it was supposedly better for you, as it is plant based, but now they realize partially hydrogenated fat is worse that naturally saturated fat. I guess you just have to keep checking labels and educate yourself, you cannot count on big business to be honest if there is a buck to be made.

For example, granola. You would think it would be made with oats, right? Well, some are and some are made with wheat. I recently realized I am gluten sensitive, so lots of label checking. You are not even safe if it says it's all oats, oats can be contaminated with wheat n the field or in the manufacturing plant. You have to buy certified gluten free oats.

I believe Breyers still has some real ice cream like their basic flavors- chocolate, strawberry, neopolitan, black cherry etc flavors. I think the frozen dairy dessert flavors are more like the candy bar flavors, bannana split flavor, Mrs Fields cookie flavor etc.

I'd assume the propylene glycol is added so that the "frozen dairy dessert" doesn't freeze as hard as real ice cream does. Personally, I'd rather use my serious ice cream scoup and some muscle to get real ice cream out of a small container, rather than be able to spoon out the frozen glop they're selling in buckets.

Its getting to the point where you have to buy Haagen-Daas or some other premium brand, just to get real hard ice cream.

Could this be a sign that we really are living in the Last Days?

Frozen Dairy Dessert products are made with many of the same high-quality ingredients that are commonly found in Ice Cream
