The religion I left just a few years ago, which called itself Jehovah's Witnesses, no longer exists. Too many doctrinal changes.
Those who call themselves JW's today are Apostates from the religion I left.
They just don't realise it.

It is a horrible slur when used by a JW. When they say it it does not mean the simple dictionary definition. When they say it it carries the meaning that you have left Jehovah the only true god, and his organization! If you are a Mormon apostate for example and become JW, that is good. When referring to ex-JWs though it means something far worse.
Unfortunately I have been called a nigger quite often in my life.
Over the past year I have been called an apostate many times as well.
I would much rather be called an apostate...
After all when I am called an apostate I actually am an apostate. However when I am called a nigger I am not actually a nigger
The N-word is a racial slur, we all know that. It's a demeaning term that is meant to "remind" someone of what they are, and where they come from. It's abusive, just like an abusive parent telling their child that they are no good. Apostasy as JWs use it may be worse because they believe the creator of all things has decided that the "apostate" is deserving of everlasting death. That's pretty bad when you think about it.
In my KH, we just had two new MS appointments. Both are persons who committed immorality in the past. One was an Elder, the other was an ex-Bethelite MS. I like both of these people and I am not judging them, I am just observing. They committed immorality, affected families forever. One was DF'd and then reinstated and appointed an MS, while I am not even good enough to be recommended. I have NEVER been DF'd only privately reproved and I always came to the Elders for help. I was never busted for doing anything. I came to them.
Since in JW-land, "apostasy" is the worst sin, worse than even child molestation, I now have a black mark that will probably follow me forever. I could have cheated on my wife, been DF'd, done it again and been DF'd, and still become an MS or Elders. I could have molested a child as an Elder, and if it was in the past, remain an Elder. If "apostasy" is suspected, that changes everything. That is how powerful that word is in Dub-land.
EVERLASTING DEATH... just think of how serious that is.

Today's JW religion is very different from the one I left in 1995. Back then Governing Body worship was still in it's infancy, this generation was still proclaimed to be the main feature the end was so close, the King of the North and UN prophecies were still important, the F&DS was still the remnant of 144,000, blood was not divided into such minute factions, Charles Taze Russell was still important to the religion, and I could go on & on regarding the many other changes in this wacky cult.
I think calling ex-members Apostate gives JW's a common bogeyman enemy to keep them from thinking about why the person may have left the religion.
When someone calls someone a nigger it does NOT remind the person of what they are. It reminds them of what the person saying thinks they are. Lets get that straight.
Also calling someone an apostate sure it is saying god thinks that person should be dead yrt still ackniwledging the pwrson is an arrogant human who made a choice. Calling someone a nigger is telling someone they are subhuman and of no worth to man or god unless they are being exploited. They are on the same level as a beast. Far worse

Ahhh, my A-word!!!
It depends on who is using the word apostate. Many JWs don't really understand what it means, they use it in a very negative way to describe someone that is worse that a sinner who has gone off their bible course. From a JWs perspective an apostate is to be avoided and feared at all costs, but a sinner can be welcomed back if they change their sinful course.
To be feared and ostrasized just for asking questions is a very unpleasant experience especially if the individual has committed no scriptural sins.
Personally I don't like the label, but I feel lost after leaving and very isolated. Saying that I find chatting to you guys on here brings me some relief from my trials.

That's what I meant. From the abusers point of view, hate-speech is meant to put you in your place. Also, apostates are considered sub-human. They are demonic, mentally diseased persons with spiritual hydrophobia. They are unfit for life according to the WT.
I can't really say that I have ever truly been discriminated against until voicing TTATT. I still have my family, for now. I imagine that losing them all would be similar to the pain of being considered inferior because of the color of your skin. Like I say, I have not experienced anything too terrible yet.
