Do you pray over your meals? If so why? If not, when did you stop and why?

I stopped praying when I began to feel distanced from God because I realized I was never going to be able to measure up to his standards (before I realized that "his" standards were really standards of men). Of course I still have to pray for appearance's sake from time to time. It does seem that JWs do this for show more than anything.

yes I do, nothing personal though, even if the universe made itself, as programmed, all the work it took, last not least the skillful constant wife's artful labor;--

for the time we have, the joy. just expressing gratefullness, with the the family, at least once a day. nothing personal.

If I was eating manna or loaves and fishes given to me by the son of god I may feel the need but generally no I don't.

Not anymore. I realized that I was talking to no one. At some point, I finally had it out with what I imagined was God and pretty much told him off. He never did reply before or after that anyway.

I also recognized the absurdity of thanking the person who, if he's the same guy from the Bible, actually condemned man to 'eat bread in the sweat of your face', the same guy who cursed the ground and made it harder for man to grow crops. So why would I thank the person who makes it hard for me to earn my food every day? If anything, I would manage to eat in spite of God's efforts to prevent humans from eating, not because of him.

The food still tastes the same without saying thanks to anyone. So...apparently no harm done.

As JWs we used to make fun of the Baptists for their "showy displays" of praying out loud in restaurants. Yet how is everyone at our table bowing their heads and silently praying NOT a showy display? Oh, look at us, we are sooo spiritual and therefore better than you. Ridiculous. Thanks be to the Universe for showing us real truth. Amen!
