What compelled us to write checks to these charlatans.

"Flavia soon noticed that many students had no interest in ‘saving the planet.’ Also, some programs at the university relied on businesses for funding, so researchers might feel inclined to favor those businesses. This bothered Flavia. When Jehovah’s Witnesses called at her door, her interest in what the Bible says about God and the future was renewed.

Flavia accepted Bible truth and was baptized. But because she was studying for an advanced degree, her time for preaching the good news was limited. One day she listened as the circuit overseer discussed James 4:17: “If someone knows how to do what is right and yet does not do it, it is a sin for him.” That moved Flavia to think about her own situation. She relates: “While wanting Jehovah’s blessing, I also wanted satisfaction from my career in science. I had to choose.”

Flavia made the personal decision to end her studies at the university. Did that leave her with regrets? She says:

“In Jehovah’s service, I have gained benefits unattainable at the university. Jehovah has been good to me. He has taught me to be kind, to show love, to help others spiritually. I have a wonderful marriage and a future far better than the one offered by science. Only Jehovah can save the planet. I will not turn my back on him.” Flavia and her husband serve at the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in New York."

This makes me so angry - guilted by the org into not pursuing her interest in Science and realisign her potential as a Scientist. If the story is true (and it may not be or may only be partially true) then I would like to fast forward 5 years after Flavia realises the duplicity and BS at Bethel and realises what she has given up thanks to the lies of the GB and she comes on JWN to lament how she was cheated.

I felt queasy then intensely irritated when I looked at the article - the illustrations particularly: a path with books, certificates, trophies and other signs of learning and accomplishments, compared with the alternative path where the only 'worthwhile' pursuits presented are (what looks like) Bethel service, preaching, preaching, conducting Bible studies, construction and more preaching.

And Flavia's experience - as others have pointed out, she already had a degree when she got involved with the JWs. It was spun in such a way as to make her choice an 'either/or' situation, a false dichotomy: “While wanting Jehovah’s blessing, I also wanted satisfaction from my career in science. I had to choose.” Why was it one or the other? Why not both? Why not have God's blessing using the passion and talents He's given her? [Rhetorical questions - we all know the Org's demands on people's time and minds.] The camera may have caught her wrong, but her smile doesn't reach her eyes and I think that is noteworthy.

I'm so glad my kids don't have to sit through that crap any more. They are talented; their hearts are in the subjects/activities they're gifted in; and they sure as hell are not letting those gifts be put on hold or wither away - which they would have to do otherwise because the Org. has little or no use for them.

The org is totally bashing higher education. Total reversal from their vaugue change on their stance circa 1995 or so.... I think that generation of high school graduates went to college, many got degrees, saw the WT propaganda for what it truly is and left.

Its all about timing too the mid 90's is when the internet first started gaining momentum. The real threat to them is not higher education but the internet but they can not tell its members to avoid the internet now because its a part of our culture, like television.

Even they realize how valuable the internet is and are hitting that pretty hard for JW's to use jw.org in the ministry, family worship, print your own literature, etc. They are picking the one thing that they can try to gain control over and it happens to be "higher education".

And what is joke-hova waiting for? Already we have a mess--while animals are being needlessly abused, joke-hova is sitting back whining because you are not doing enough. While the lobsters in your supermarket are suffering, joke-hova cares more about that you didn't make room to pious-sneer than about freeing the lobsters. While they are putting squiggly things they call light bulbs everywhere, and so-called smart meters to irradiate you and spy on your lifestyle, joke-hova is too busy making sure people are not masturbating to care about it.

There are legitimate issues with college, especially with the debt situation out of control. Tuition has gone up way past reasonable inflation. And as long as the Rockefellers are in charge of our whole diseducation system, the true benefits of college are going to be nurfed severely. However, you often need that paper that certifies that you have been fully indoctrinated via the Rockefeller system to get a job that pays decently (and there are so many regulations, often sponsored by the same Rockefellers, that prevent you from putting your own products on the market without permission from that system).

Of course, that is not the only education system the washtowel bashes, and they bash it for reasons beyond the debt and lousy quality. They want you to pious-sneer instead of bettering your life or the world. (Kind of makes you wonder if the same Establishment that the Rockefellers have created is also tied somehow to the vatican and/or the washtowel, to enslave mankind). Try going online, the washtowel bashes that for "Our time is for the ministry" (and, I think if astrology becomes high enough quality, they will ban it because they are afraid of a few people throwing a curse on the whole religion instead of just joining an apostate site). The washtowel does not want new, cleaner energy any more than the Rockefellers. The washtowel doesn't want sound money any more than the Rothschilds do. They don't want cures for diseases any more than the Rockefellerian sick care system. They don't want people learning astrology by first grade any more than the vatican does. They, and joke-hova itself, needs you broke, sick, and stupid in order to enslave you.

What a waste Flavia, working in a factory cleaning facilities with no pay.... or advancing human knowledge. You made the wrong desicion and I would bet my life you regret it every 6am when you hear the alarm for 'morning worship'.
