Well, I am proud to be Christian - not that I am Christian in the same manner as most others here. Why can't we respect each other more? I know I don't have clean hands. No one is converted to a belief by rudeness and hammering over the head. I am certainly not going to change my opinion b/c of atheist posts. I did research. Certainly, I discussed and still discuss. I think there are some not sophisticated people on this forum when it comes to the variety within Christianity, Judaism, Islam.

In fact, I believe there is a demonstrated effect when people go too far-people retreat further into their original position. You make it more precious to them. The Witnesses love persecution stories. To be fair, the Witnesses were persecuted for bad reasons in the United States. When we proclaim freedom of religion as the ideal, my mom being kicked out of school was very wrong. I believe Witnesses are unfairly persecuted in Russia.

What got a bup up my nose...... I don't care if minimus wan't to put his hand in the air and say "don't think or EXPECT to change my mind on religion here!" then I would have thought.... shame, bit sad and a bit stupid...but no laws against that.

But to say "Don't expect this site to change anybody's religious opinion" sounds like something a JW would come and say, with a smirk across their face.

This site HAS changed people's views on religion. You can't be a JW and not come here and have your views on WT or life as a JW changed! How many people have changed the views of theire family and friends JUST by communicating what they have read here?

It is a negative, pessimistic and WRONG view to promote. I can say it is wrong because I know at least one person that had his view changed on his religion by this site.... ME. I used to post under a different name here, years ago.... my posts are as a believer.

Now you will go back and emphasis the word EXPECT. I don't know why this is supposed to make a difference, I have already said that it works, it DOES change people's minds....so why would it be inappropriate to expect it would inform and open minds?

Lastly, I think this is just an attack on the two ends of a bell shaped curve, the atheists and the fundementalists. Having been a fundementalist most of my life and become an atheist....again... I can confirm... it happend.... AND this site influenced it happening.

Let me be clear, if someone can convince me of a god, here or elsewhere.... you will see me believing again.....

Just to be clear, this site has obviously helped many people to get out of the JW religion. Some people were Christians and due to this place changed their views ab out their beliefs in god. My only point has been this: you might have the best arguments, the best proofs imaginable on a matter and it doesn't mean that you will change someone's opinions. If you expect that you will change someone's opinions on religion, politics or anything dear to your heart, you will realize that not everyone will share that opinion, even if that view is indisputable to you.

Had you just said this in your title, I personally wouldn't have taken an interest in what seems a very obvious statement, but you didn't say anything near this minimus, you said....

That is a bit different to saying ...not everyone......will respond to your evidence and reason, which really didn't need saying.... We all left loved ones behind in an irrational, illogical, false belief system. What you said was very negative, very pessimistic and innacurate. i clicked on it interested in your reason for saying it, only you didn't have a reason, just an opinion and now you just keep dodging away from what you initially said.

Instead of constantly changing what you claim to have meant, why not just admit "whoops that was a bit much, must have been a bad day!"

Snare, I just want you to know that I've got nothing to apologize for. Just because you come here and spout off on a subject, it doesnt mean that you should expect people are necessarily going to change their views. If you expect that to happen you may often become disappointed. So like I said, " don't expect this site to change anybody's religious opinion...or for that matter any opinion someone wants to hold on to. That's pretty simple to understand, I think, but I don't expect that you can understand that. Lol
