I'm waiting for the day when the dramas, if not the whole assembly will be simulcast from Bethel by the GB via large screens installed at all the Assembly Halls.

I definitely think you are onto something here. I see the dramas and the public talk to be the first things broadcast, this elimates a MASSIVE amount of man hours on the "regions" to put together dramas. And without DO's who will critique the performance?

Also, public talks. Again with no DO's this means sending bethel reps to every assembly. Streaming or playing a pre-recorded video talk is cheaper and also centralizes information flow and makes the R&F feel all warm and fuzzy about their leaders

I agree about live or recorded talks - it's been tested during last years 'historic' annual meeting and it went smoothly.

Imagine the anticipation of all in attendance when a live streaming talk by a Governing Body member is announced. "Bring all your family and interested ones" will be the mantra.

Dramas will be eliminated because of the time wasted. It will go the way of live music at the assemblies.

We've been 'listening' to sound dramas for years. It's not a big jump to change from on-stage drama's to movies i.e. playing The Prodigal Son Returns like videos.

metatron - "I haven't seen anyone here comment on the futility/idiocy of trying to force more donations out of congregations to build more Kingdom Halls."

First they maneuver the local congos into officially signing over full ownership of the older KHs to the WTS...

...then they compel theose selfsame local congos into refurbishing those KHs on their own dime...

...then when attendance/membership inevitably declines, they have a pretext for quietly selling off a newly refurbished property for a significant profit...

...and then the newly built KHs can be touted to the R&F as evidence of "growth", whilst reglecting to mention that the old KHs that were closed down actually outnumber the new ones.

    Pretty slick, actually.

If they were strictly a real estate company rather than an authoritarian religion with millions of members who hang on their every word, I'd actually have a grudging amount of respect for their business sense.

By having one day DC, I would imagine there would be no difference in contributions. How many contributed 3+ days at the DC? So one day DC seems logical.

I must admit, I remember as a young kid on day 4 at Twickenham suffering heat exhaustion, and all I had all day was some awfull orange drink full of additives that was making me more thirsty by the gulp, and even as a teenager, I has to roll under the bench seating and go to sleep in utter misery!

There's a powerful quote from Nietzsche that represent a lot the feelings of JW's facing all the bizarre changes of WT:

"Rather than cope with the unbearable loneliness of their condition, men will continue to seek their shattered God and for His sake they will love the very serpents found among His ruins."

The WT are morphing in a so wild way that is hard to recognize it from 20, 30 years ago. In any sense, the WT are literally shattered compared to what it was.

No other modern religion have the same condition of obvious expired doctrines. How can they bear the shame of being in 2014?

No matter how insane the "new lights" (serpents) produced to protect(?) the WT (JW's God) corpse, the JW's will love it.

When we had the announcement about the reduction to 2 x 1 day circuit assemblies I thought that something like this could be on the cards.

They have all these faciliities which sit there doing nothing for the majority of the year so how about making them do more. The ability to stream talks gives them opportunity to reduce cost.

Granted, there are downsides in terms of having to get lots of people through the doors over several weekends but not impossible. The upsides of less time organisaing these things, trying to find voluteers, shipping, trucking, sound, accomodation etc etc. That reduces cost and enables yet further cutbacks. The donations will not take a massive hit since those that like to donate will continue to do so. Not only that but the donations will go straight to the org on a building that is likely already paid for.

We shall have to wait and see if this atually pans out but I don't think it's a far fetched idea.

like a feeder property supply for the vastly more interesting high growth pentecostal/evangelical outfits?

From inception, this 'religion' was not a long-term one. They were based on the end coming 'soon', 'imminently'. They are now needing to innovate, re-invent because they were not built for the long haul. If they are having to reduce publications, meetings, and properties this is a true indication of an organization in decline.

Several years ago, my Father told me: "The young people are leaving in droves." If Botchtower keeps recruting members in poorer countries, their financial sources are going to decline and possibly dry up. Couple this with the fact that the Baby Boomers are retiring and have less disposable cash means they'll have a big problem with financials and any sort of expansion.

I think the people at the top are starting to realize Armageddon ain't comin'. I'm hoping a lot of members realize this too. Time is their enemy.

Yup; designed to be a lifeboat, not a cruiser.

    Need to? Sure.

Able to with any degree of genuine success? Not likely, for a whole shit-ton of reasons.
