If you notice, when i said this originally, i was repeating orthodox evolutionary thought. I believe that is your speciality.

    No you weren't.

It just doesn't make any sense to talk about how "evolved" a species is. I am wondering how you understand it since you are using it in derisory way without apparently understanding it.

    Yes, i was.

' fundamnetalist evolutionists thought they knew that all things are equally evolved, except for the shark and a few other species. Now, since this discovery, they again think that they know all species are equally evolved (except for a few species).'

    See?

    But that is utter bullshit.

    " fundamnetalist evolutionists"

I think that is what is called an oxymoron. Those two words do not go together!

say that evolution goes on at the same rate, across the board.

There is no such thing. Evolution by natural selection doesn't go on at any predictable or expected rate. Evolution happens when a specific change in an organism prevails if it is better suited to it's environment than the previous organism. If it is not, it does not prevail, and thus there is no evolution.

When you hear the term "living fossil" it means just that - an organism that has remained almost unchanged, mostly likely because it's so well suited to it's enviroment that mutations are much more unlikely to create a better suited organism.

Satanus, here is a quote I found when reading Wikipedia the other day:

All fresh-water basins, taken together, make a small area compared with that of the sea or of the land; and, consequently, the competition between fresh-water productions will have been less severe than elsewhere; new forms will have been more slowly formed, and old forms more slowly exterminated. And it is in fresh water that we find seven genera of Ganoid fishes, remnants of a once preponderant order: and in fresh water we find some of the most anomalous forms now known in the world, as the Ornithorhynchus and Lepidosiren, which, like fossils, connect to a certain extent orders now widely separated in the natural scale. These anomalous forms may almost be called living fossils; they have endured to the present day, from having inhabited a confined area, and from having thus been exposed to less severe competition.

This is a quote acknowledging that not all animals are equally evolved, in the sense that they have not had to change much over time. It was written by Darwin himself. So clearly it was understood from the beginning of the theory. It was allowed for from the beginning. It is not convenient reasoning, TheOldHippie. It is simply how the theory works. Evolution 'doesn't fix what ain't broke'.

Now, some aspects of evolution theory have definitely, well, evolved since Darwin's time. And it's also possible that you've seen someone (maybe me, I'm a neophyte to this subject) phrase things inaccurately. Please don't let that give you an excuse for not believing in such a well-established scientific principle. If anyone pops up on the forum claiming to know everything, feel free to disregard them, but I don't see that taking place in this thread, anyway.

Unless Satanus is willing to answer the question of what he/she means by "more evolved" the point is moot.

While i don't have all the terms down pat, i do subscribe to evolution. Some have the know-it-all attitude and smack down new ideas without considering them or understanding them - a fundamentalist type of reaction. Some people cut themselves a lot of slack, but, are unwilling to do so for others.
