fundamentalist evolutionist - yup - Richard Dawkins top of my list (when he is refuting fundamentalist religion) - although I might want to claim him as a religious atheist too as he seems to spend so much time discussing religion. btw Darwin tops my list of religious minded atheists, second only to Einstein.

as for proof - cofty knows i have it all down pat

What does "fundamentalist evolutionist" mean? How does it differ from a regular evolutionist? What is an evolutionist? What is a religious minded atheist?

viv- i'm afraid you know what you think you don't know (you are playing with me right?)

I have to chime in here; I honestly couldn't understand that post of yours either, Ruby456. Is a fundamental evolutionist someone who pushes evolution as absolute fact? Because there's at least three problems with that definition:

    1. Evolution theory is very close to certain; it's an extrapolation of observations made in nature, so when someone says that we haven't seen evolution take place, that's simply wrong. It has been observed directly, just that we've haven't been watching for it for very long so our observations are not going to be of a very dramatic nature. Also, we can now see how the process works on the genetic level in the lab.

    2. You don't see any competing theories in science (only subtypes of this theory), so you can't say that people pushing evolution are just one school of thought among others.

    3. The only reason anyone doubts evolution theory is that they feel it conflicts with the religious beliefs they already hold.

So why do some of you have a problem with people talking about evolution? Is it resentment over attacks on your faith? I can't imagine that you have any objection that is on scientific grounds, but maybe I'm wrong. So what is the purpose between demarcating "evolutionists" from "fundamental evolutionists"?

Why do Atheists think evolution is the be-all-end-all science ?

Why do Atheists think evolution disproves the existance of God?

Do Atheists know that all the modern latest up to date science in

every advanced university is studying only 4% of what actually exists ?

Thats what modern day Physics tells us. 96% of all Matter and Energy

is a complete unknown, they know it is there, becuase they can measure the

effect Dark Matter (unseen) and Dark Energy, has on all other matter, but

no one knows what it is. No one. So we are discussing 4% of reality ?

Molecular and atomic and DNA science shows that we are all part of a

single DNA connection, including plants, and animals. There are animals

that reproduce without sex, and can go back and forth and change their sex.

There are animals that act like plants and plants that act like animals.

Get beyond simple Biology, and Geology and look at Physics.

There are 11 different know dimensions, and it has been established that

objects can be in two places, at the same time, simultaneously, in other dimensions,

so whats the big deal about evolution of animals ?

What difference that does that make in determining the existance of

other forms of higher life or a Creator ?

    Where to begin?

Evolution is the cornerstone of biology. It is how we understand the inter-relatedness every living thing on planet earth.

A deeper understanding of biology is the key to a better future. Genetics holds the hope for cures to many diseases and a possibility of living healthily right into old age.

    It is of monumental importance.

Evolution and biology doesn't prove there is no god but it does make god redundant. There is no longer a place left for a designer or creator, so if god exists then existing is all she does.

As for physics, it too is fascinating. Why do you present it as an either/or?

I have Lawrence Krauss' "A Universe From Nothing" on my shelf waiting to be read soon. Right now I am reading about epigentics.

I do think that 99.9% of people who read popular physics have no idea where fact ends and fantasy begins.

The irony is, evolution has no connection to atheism or belief.

Anyone thinking it SERIOSULY misunderstands it. All evolution does is explain the influences on species adaptation over time. That is all it does. The EVIDENCE makes clear that genes and the enviroment influence how species change.

THAT IS IT. No more. Nothing to do with a god, nothing to do with how life began on earth. Nothing to do with the big bang. Nothing to do with history and carbon dating... we see it happening now! YOU can see it happening now. But you dont even know what IT is.....

So when RELIGIOUS people go nuts about evolution, they don't realise THEY are the ones making it an issue. Here on this forum, in the last few weeks we have discussed cosmology, astronomy, physics, chemistry and evolution. But the religious attack the evolution thread because TO THEM it is an issue. It is YOUR beliefs being proved wrong IF you say evolution is false. But if you decide to stand by it.... great. Good for you. But it has nothing to do with athiests.

Half of scientists believe in god and evolution, the pope believes in evolution, the head of the HUMAN DNA project believes in god and helped proved evolution true beyond doubt.

You are in a pit of ignorance as I was AND it is your fault if you don't read these facts and decide to educate yourself!!!!

If you associate evolution with atheism, if you think evolutionary believers are militaristic and aggresive....... know you are talking about 97% of sceintists with half of them being believers in your god !

    snare

P.s. Just to be clear, my motives in discussing evolution is based on how ignorant I was due to the lies I was told as a JW. I simply tell and signpost people to the information I wish I had access to so I... could decide for myself ! People come here and attack a scientific hypothesis without even being able to explain the hypothesis and it is embarassing, frustrating and highly irresponsible!!!

Is this a confession Cofty? Or do you consider yourself part of the rarified .1%(1 in a thousand) who does have some idea?
