MadGiant, we know the Hebrews had taboos, the question is what was behind the taboos? Some of it makes sense, but some it does not make sense. What prompted Hebrews to decide that homosexuality was to be listed under the taboos?

The feeling is mutual, Cofty.

I don't have the answer to those questions. Beside being different and morally superior to their neighbors, I don't have an answer.

I defended atheists against fundamentalists until recently. They no longer deserve a defense. Atheism is very strong in my community. I always saw an unfair advantage to Christian nuts. They impose their Christ on me (I believe) and agnostics/atheists. This forum is no place for tolerance to flourish. People don't write about what makes sense to them. No, we must beat the hell out of any belief.
This country protects everyone not only atheists. Making fun of people and thinking (talk about delusions) you are super smart to be an atheist. The atheists I respect have never lowered themselves to an evangelical standard. They are lowering themselves even further. As I go about my daily activity, there are ahteists all over the place. This believer/atheist divide is not revelant. The subways are not full of people fighting viciously. Respect is missing. I regret ever siding with an atheist here. This site is scary. Control nuts are present. Self appointed commisars are here. Why?
No one is winning. This is losing. People have a right to belief. The only person who can destroy that right is for believers to ignore the assault. When someone is rude, say so. Losers. Go visit an elite college or university. Sit in a cafe or Starbucks. See if you hear anything familiar there. I doubt it.

Evidence-based thinking does not want or require your defense BOTR. It stands on it's own merit.
Who is "they" exactly? Atheism isn't a club.
This has nothing to do with "Starbucks". I never discuss religion outside this forum but I am always amazed that people get stressed about having their beliefs challenged on a religious discussion forum.

Jehovah's Witness Discussion Forum
The place to discuss anything relating to Jehovah's Witnesses and the WatchTower Bible and Tract Society... or just make new friends!

Like the existence of god, the inspiration of the bible, the ethics of Jesus, the failure of bible prophecy, the reality of evolution, the reliability of science and the depravity of biblical morality for example?

I don't place the blame on religion for most of those things because I believe that the underlying cause was an emotional, tribalistic or instinctual aspect of human nature
So flying jets into the World Trade Center as part of a jihad and The Inquisition were simply "instinctual"? Good to know.

BOTR: People have a right to belief.
I don't think anyone is arguing against a person's right to believe what they want to.
However, when a believer insists someone else must also believe the same thing without offering any evidence their belief is true, that's where the problems start.
If a person chooses to believe the earth is flat or the moon is made of cheese, so be it. But when they tell me I have to believe the same thing or else god will punish me, that's where the gloves off.
