  They can, but they've just said it shouldn't be done unless scripturally warranted. The inspired apostle Paul is allowed to make those kinds of types/antitypes associations (Melchizedek, Sarah and Hagar, Jesus = Passover Lamb, etc.) but by Watchtower's own words,

  "... we ought to be reluctant to assign an antitypical application to a certain person or account if there is no specific Scriptural basis for doing so."

  The Org's antitypical interpretation of Dan. 4 is without specific scriptural basis. This new interpretational approach by the Org. agrees with what critics of Watchtower doctrine have been saying for, like, forever.

  Okay, I think the way they worded that statement confused me. Reading it again, it maks more sense to me.

  Anyway, this doesn't really torpedo any of their antitypical teachings. They're not making any hard-and-fast rules here, they're simply saying they are "reluctant" to make antitypical applications. So for the teachings they need to preserve, like Daniel 4 which ties into 1914, they will simply say that the evidence for certain antitypical interpretations is overwhelming.

  Personally I think this whole study lesson is much ado about nothing, because they haven't been writing articles about detailed typology for years now. It's more like a declaration of the current GB's feelings on the matter than any sort of notable doctrinal change.

  There is a logical absurdity to the notion of "more,"when it is applied to being "faithful"for what appears to me

  to be a simple binary reason. You ARE faithful or you are NOT.

  You are PREGNANT or you are NOT.

  Just because a baby is developing inside a mother doesn't mean she is more and MORE pregnant.

  This kind of reasoning on the part of the "Faithful" and discreet slave is very demonstrative of total amateur incompetency as

  interpreters or analysts.

  This calls into question what 2+2=3.5 might indicate to this religion.

  IS IT JUST AN EARLY STAGE OF INCREASING MATHEMATICAL ACCURACY?

  Is Watchtower 'Truth" merely a series of estimates resembling an asymptote?

  I have been suspecting for awhile now, the Org is setting up a total abandonment of 1914.

  Why?

  It is absurd, unverifiable, and it paints a target on the entire theology.

  What would be the consequence?

  REBOOT!

  Why?

  The organization could become--not unlike the Worldwide Church of God--more mainstream and respectiable.

  It has the added benefit of shaking loose all the mugwumps and retaining the die-hards.

  Darwinian survival, how delicious the irony!

  A cataclysmic MEA CULPA would clear them of responsibility of all past sins and errors.

  They could declare amnesty on DF'd disaffected JW's and decimate a battalion of critics simultaneously.

  I agree with you 100% Terry. Anyone that has a long history with this religion, if he is honest with himself, can see the handwriting on the wall. Changing the meaning of the 'parable of the ten virgins' is much like your analogy of replacing solid bricks in a wall with wooden ones. The book GODS KINGDON OF A THOUSAND YEARS HAS APPROACHED printed by the Watchtower Society in 1973 has quite an indepth discussion on the parable of the ten virgins. It is Chapter 11 entitled "HERE IS THE BRIDEGROOM". Much of the premise of the chapter is to show that the parable proves Jesus was enthroned as King in 1914 and that Jehovah chose this organization in 1919 as the 'wise virgin class'. Like I said in an previous post, this Governing Body is 'tearing down the house with their own hands'. It only remains to be seen how they will rebuild and recraft their 'dogma and new light' without completely destroying the whole religion.

  As you know, the WTS/GB applies “Jerusalem” in verse 24 to Jehovah’s Witnesses but they apply “Jerusalem” in verse 20 as applying to Christendom, claiming that they are the “antitypical” Jerusalem.

  What would you say the ramifications are of the newest WT (March 2015) from being able to apply negative future judgments to Christendom?
